It’s essentially free marketing.
While millions of people will be tuning into the 2025 Super Bowl to watch some football, a large amount of fans will only be watching Kendrick Lamar’s halftime show. The rapper was already a massive star but reached an even higher level with the release of his song Not Like Us.
However, there are plenty of other Kendrick Lamar songs that fans will be eager to hear. The Super Bowl Halftime Show is one of the biggest gigs an artist can book and it’s always massive entertainment news when they’re revealed.
Despite that, the NFL doesn’t fork out a lot of money to their halftime performers. In fact, Lamar isn’t getting a dime from the NFL.

If he isn’t getting paid, then why is he doing it? Well, while he might not be getting paid by the NFL, he’s going to still make a ton of money.
The Super Bowl is going to be the most-watched event in the entire country this weekend and possibly the most-watched program for the entire year. That means big-time sponsorship deals and millions of people streaming his music. It’s essentially free marketing. Lamar just had a new album that’s probably going to sell a ton of copies and he just happens to be going on tour in April. If all his shows aren’t sold out yet, they almost certainly will be after the Super Bowl
Joe Pompliano gave a detailed explanation as to why the Super Bowl can be very profitable for performers.
The NFL is paying Kendrick Lamar less than $1,000 to perform at this year’s Super Bowl, but he’ll still walk away with millions.

What to Expect from Kendrick Lamar’s Halftime Show?
Lamar is certainly going to have to keep things a bit more PG for his halftime show performance. It’s a nationally broadcasted performance so he’s going to have to follow certain rules. This means he’s going to have to mess with the lyrics of songs like Not Like Us.

That shouldn’t be a problem. What will be interesting to see is how he could incorporate New Orleans into his set. Lamar is a Los Angeles guy but may want to bring in some NOLA flare to his performance. The Super Bowl odds have the Chiefs favored to win, which would be depressing for most of the country. Here’s hoping that Lamar’s halftime show at least brings some happiness to fans hoping to see the Chiefs lose.
