Bond. James Bond. 🍸

It’s going to be tough to be the Bond who comes after Daniel Craig…

Even before Daniel Craig was officially done playing James Bond, there was rampant speculation about who could play him next. The character has been around for decades but remains an icon. All of the James Bond actors have legacies in their own right so it’s a major role to take on.

Well, it looks like we might be closing on who the next star of James Bond movies will be. According to entertainment news from The Sun, Aaron Taylor-Johnson has been offered the role. While nothing is confirmed yet, fans are already on board with Taylor-Johnson as the new 007.

At first glance, Taylor-Johnson fits the two most important criteria for Bond–he’s British and handsome. While he isn’t a huge A-lister, you’ve definitely seen him around. His big breakout was in Kick-Ass and recently he’s been in blockbusters like Tenet and Bullet Train. However, is he the right choice for 007?

Who Else Could Be in the Mix for Bond?

Two of the most popular names attached to James Bond, per entertainment rumors, are Henry Cavill and Idris Elba. What Taylor-Johnson has over them is that he’s much younger (33). Cavill is 40 and Elba is 51. That gives the studio a much shorter runway with what they can do with the character.

If Taylor-Johnson ends up being a hit as Bond, he could easily do the role for the next 20 years. I used to be pretty meh about the actor. I thought he was boring in Godzilla (2014) but he’s grown on me. He was great in Outlaw King and he proved he could be a charming Brit in Bullet Train.

Some people might want a bigger name playing Bond, but if you look at history, they’ve never cast an actor who was already an A-lister when they took the mantle of Bond. Daniel Craig, who is probably my favorite Bond, was mostly a side character in movies before landing the role.

Nobody knew who Sean Connery was worldwide before he played the icon. Now, it sounds like Taylor-Johnson hasn’t officially been offered the role yet. If he were to take it, it’d be a huge deal and he’ll be opening himself up to a lot of scrutiny. It definitely takes a certain type of person to be able to take on that kind of pressure.

However, this is THE iconic role for a British actor. I can’t fathom he’d actually turn it down. Personally, I would’ve liked to see Cavill take on the role but Talyor-Johnson isn’t a bad choice. That said, it’s going to be tough to be the Bond who comes after Daniel Craig, who was universally praised for his performance in the role.
