Late-Night Laughs

It was a bad night for everyone who voted for him too. You just don’t realize it yet… – Kimmel

The eponymous host of Jimmy Kimmel Live! continues to dig deep into political news despite the 2024 presidential elections being in the nation’s rearview mirror. As usual, his target was President-elect Donald Trump and his recent cabinet choices.

Jimmy’s Axe Keeps Grinding

For years, Jimmy Kimmel has used his nightly monologue as a launching pad of venom and vitriol towards Donald Trump. Some of the jabs are funny, some are not, but it’s become nothing if not repetitive, and Jimmy Kimmel doesn’t seem to care.

Despite Trump’s sweeping victory, Kimmel has not slowed down his attacks, and celebrity rumors are percolating that the late-night talk show host will not sign another contract after his current deal expires on January 20th. He, like many other entertainers and celebrities, has publicly stated he will leave the country if Trump is elected, and unlike virtually all of them, Kimmel just might pack up and go when his contract ends.

The day after Trump secured a landslide victory over Kamala Harris, Kimmel was tearful during his monologue that evening and has not been shy about continuing his nightly tirades against his nemesis. Below is a little snippet of how he characterized Trump’s victory.

“It was a terrible night for poor people, for the middle class, for seniors who rely on Social Security, for our allies in Ukraine, for NATO, and democracy and decency. And it was a terrible night for everyone who voted against him. And guess what? It was a bad night for everyone who voted for him too. You just don’t realize it yet,” said Kimmel.

Kimmel also referenced Trump as a criminal and noted Kamala’s history as a prosecutor, saying, America had a choice, “and we chose the criminal to be president of the United States. More than half of this country voted for the criminal who is planning to pardon himself for his crimes. I guess this election wasn’t rigged.”

Celebrity Appresident

It has been more than a week since the election, and those who made a bet on Donald Trump have been rewarded for their efforts. And although the presidential betting odds for this cycle have been taken down, the oddsmakers at BetUS have put up a variety of political props, and the cabinet picks that Trump has already made have become more comedic fodder for Kimmel.

“We’re starting to get more of a sense of what Season Two of the Celebrity Appresident might look like,” said Kimmel. “According to his new chief of staff, Susie Wiles, Trump plans to issue a number of executive orders on day one: He wants four Big Macs, six large fries, and two buckets of KFC,” the comic joked, before noting: “In addition, he wants to put executive orders eliminating immigration and in his ongoing fight against the climate.”

“[Musk’s] basically moved into Mar-a-Lago,” Kimmel said before rolling a clip of the Tesla CEO being invited to take a photo with the Trump family at Mar-a-Lago. “Melania was not in the photo; Elon was,” the late-night host pointed out. “Melania, you see what you get for a hundred million dollars?”

Even if you loathe Donald Trump, watching Kimmel bang the same drum night after night is like watching a sulking teenage girl incessantly rage about the girl she hates at school. It’s become Kimmel’s raison d’être, and although there are some who can never get enough Trump trashing, for others who are not even supporters of the incoming president, it’s become tedious enough to turn Kimmel off for good.
