A Horror Film With a Sports Twist? Count Us In!

Is the star player a weirdo? Is he haunted by a ghost? Is he a serial killer?

Two of my favorite things in the entire world are sports and horror movies. Unfortunately, I can’t think of any great examples of sports-themed horror movies. Sure, there are plenty of horror movies that have sports elements in them but I’d love to see one where sports is very much at the center of the horror.

Luckily, it looks like Jordan Peele is going to make that happen. The superstar filmmaker is set to produce a film called Goat through his Monkeypaw production company, which is based on a script written by Zack Akers and Skip Bronkie. Sadly, Peele isn’t directing as Justin Tipping is set to direct just his second feature film.

Details on the film are vague as the synopsis on IMDb reads, “It follows a promising athlete who is invited to train with the star of the team who is about to retire.” It’s unclear where the horror is going to come in. Is the star player a weirdo? Is he haunted by a ghost? Is he a serial killer? It’s unclear right now but as we know with Jordan Peele movies, there will be a heavy dose of social commentary in this one.

The big entertainment news surrounding this movie is that Julia Fox has been tabbed to star with Marlon Wayans and Tyriq Withers. Fox had her breakout in the iconic sports movie Uncut Gems but became a much bigger name due to her fling with Kanye West.

It’s looking like she’s trying to remove herself from that whole situation and refocus on acting. There are always a lot of new horror movies always coming out but having Fox and Peele attached to it should lead to some hype.

The script that was written by Akers and Bronkie was previously on the Black List, which is a list of the best unproduced screenplays so it’s gotta be a pretty good script.

While Peele’s directorial efforts have been top-notch, some of the works he’s produced haven’t been my favorite. The Twilight Zone reboot and Candyman remake weren’t my favorites so here’s hoping he’s got a banger with Goat. I’ll pretty much watch any new horror movies that come out so I’ll likely catch this one regardless.

I’m really hoping the mixing of sports and horror works. I think there’s a lot of potential there since there isn’t a definitive horror movie involving sports.
