Kim’s Hot Take
She’s keeping the conversation going, which is more than most people can say…
Kim Kardashian’s been doubling down on her prison reform efforts lately, and now she’s calling on California Governor Gavin Newsom to raise the pay for incarcerated firefighters working the LA fires. It’s a solid cause but naturally, the internet had questions; most of which boiled down to, “Kim, aren’t you a billionaire?”

Kim posted on Instagram over the weekend, shouting out the incarcerated firefighters working 24-hour shifts for $1 an hour to fight the Palisades and Eaton fires. She called them “heroes” risking their lives and noted that some have even lost their lives.
Apparently, their pay hasn’t budged since 1984, and a recent attempt to bump it to $5/hour was shot down. Kim urged Newsom to finally make a change, calling for wages that “honor a human being risking their life to save ours.” And honestly, she has a point. But here’s where the celebrity news gets messy.

A Billionaire With a Cause
Look, Kim Kardashian’s net worth is sitting somewhere north of $1 billion, so naturally, the internet wasted zero time pointing out the obvious: Why not just cut the check yourself, Kimberly? With some saying things like, “Put your Skims cash where your mouth is,” and honestly, fair. Another X user said, “Rich prick energy,” which feels both unnecessarily mean and kinda accurate.
I agree, they should get paid more. That’s why Kim should pay for it.

Yeah, she “could” pay them herself, but hey, at least she’s using her megaphone to call attention to the issue. These firefighters are nonviolent offenders trying to rebuild their lives, and programs like the Ventura Training Center actually help them transition into real firefighting jobs post-prison. So yeah, Kim’s not writing the checks, but she’s keeping the conversation going, which is more than most people can say.
Firefighting, Skims, and the Irony of It All
The strangest part? This is Kim Kardashian we’re talking about; queen of glam, selfies, and celebrity rumors. And now she’s out here trying to fix prison wages. It’s such a weird contrast that it almost feels fake, but credit where it’s due—she’s sticking with this prison reform thing.
If only the solution to all of this was as simple as another Kardashian Instagram post.
