We’re writing season four now, that’s the official word… – Ted Lasso

Ah, the wait is finally over—Ted Lasso season 4 is officially incoming!

After nearly two years of anticipation, Apple TV+ has announced some major entertainment news: the beloved sports comedy has been renewed for a fourth season. And get this—Jason Sudeikis is confirmed to return as Ted Lasso. If you’ve been keeping up with the updates, there was heavy speculation that Sudeikis might not fully return and that we might get some sort of spin-off instead.

However, that’s not the case. The new cast of Ted Lasso will definitely be including Sudeikis’s iconic character. On Friday, March 14, Sudeikis appeared on the Kelce brothers’ New Heights podcast, where he confirmed some exciting details. “We’re writing season four now, that’s the official word,” Sudeikis revealed. “Ted’s coaching a women’s team.”

BELIEVE

This is such a great direction for the new season. The last storyline wrapped up with AFC Richmond rising through the ranks of the Premier League and Ted returning home to Kansas to be with his son. However, there was definitely a hint about a potential women’s soccer team—Juno Temple’s character, Keeley, had presented AFC Richmond’s owner with a proposal to start one.

Sudeikis also shared a statement in a press release: “As we all continue to live in a world where so many factors have conditioned us to ‘look before we leap,’ in season four, the folks at AFC Richmond learn to LEAP BEFORE THEY LOOK, discovering that wherever they land, it’s exactly where they’re meant to be.”

Back in Kansas City?

Ultimately, this is an excellent idea. It keeps the show alive while staying true to its original storyline. It would be incredible if Ted went back to the U.S. and started coaching a women’s team in Kansas City. Imagine the possibility of scenes at CPKC Stadium—the first stadium built for women’s soccer—and maybe even cameos from KC’s NWSL team.

So, for anyone who is mourning the last 34 episodes of Ted Lasso or Jason Sudeikis movies and TV shows in general, there’s more coming your way! No official release date has been confirmed but the writers are working so keep your eyes peeled for more news.
