Long Time Coming

So, to answer the question ‘Has the WWE made a mistake resigning Punk?’, HELL NO!

The best in the world, the straight-edge superstar, the cult of personality, former WWE champion turned UFC competitor and then AEW champion. Yes, the CM Punk return to World Wrestling Entertainment that nobody believed would ever come to fruition happened.

CM Punk’s unforeseen appearance in Illinois this past weekend electrified the wrestling community while blowing the roof of the Allstate Arena, conveniently in Punk’s home city of Chicago, where he’s adored.

Punk’s return to WWE reportedly transpired rapidly, and very few individuals, including company executives, were informed of his return.

The WWE effectively managed Punk’s shocking comeback by strategically timing his appearance at Saturday’s Survivor Series, catching everyone off guard at the conclusion of the show.

Whether it was fortuitous timing or meticulous strategizing, the decision to have Punk come back in his own city of Chicago proved to be a resounding success, as the fervent audience at the Allstate Arena reacted with overwhelming enthusiasm. And all Punk did was briefly emerge from the backstage area and absorb the reaction without uttering a word.

Has the WWE made a mistake by bringing Punk back?

Following a series of WWE rumors and controversies in 2014, Punk departed from the WWE: He’d already walked away from the organization previously. He’d dealt with suspension. Then, his employment was terminated on the day of his nuptials, and instead of just writing vows for his wife, AJ Lee, he also vowed never to work for the organization again–and you can’t really blame him.

Although “The Cult of Personality” finishes his opponents with the Go to Sleep (GTS), his in-ring style and mic skills fail to elicit a desire for a pillow and plush blanket. By deviating from the conventional ideals of a sports entertainer, he has successfully cultivated an indelible bond with the audience that is beyond reproach.

Furthermore, not to be overlooked, his notorious Pipebomb promotion shook wrestling and WWE news to its foundations and demanded an overhaul of the antiquated and worn-out status quo.

So, to answer the question “Has the WWE made a mistake resigning Punk?”, HELL NO!

No wrestling company in the world, especially the pioneering promotion, would regret signing The Straight Edge Superstar… And the numbers, well, they speak for themselves.

Triple H’s social media posts on Saturday night also spoke volumes.

The WWE’s chief content officer and the head of creative commemorated the comeback of CM Punk with a concise caption consisting of only five words.

The future is bright, the future is straight edge, and if anyone has the pull to end Roman Reigns’ streak as WWE champion, you’re looking at him.
