Is It a Social Media Mishap, a PR Stunt, or Actual Trouble in Paradise?

Vacay Breakup? 💔

Sh*t is getting suss out here. – Justin Bieber

The saga of Justin and Hailey Bieber seems to be the gift that keeps on giving. Just this month, they had to squash celebrity rumors about a breakup, and now we’re back in the thick of it. Is it real, or is it all for show? Let’s dive in.

Trouble in Paradise?

Typically, I believe what celebrities say about their relationships. If Justin Bieber says he’s happy, I’m inclined to believe him. But this situation? It’s raising some eyebrows. The latest development dropped on Jan. 21 when fans noticed Justin unfollowed wife Hailey on Instagram—a move that’s basically the 2025 equivalent of filing for divorce in front of the world. Even after their recent cozy Aspen getaway, this social media slip has people discussing potential trouble in paradise.

Naturally, Justin tried to set the record straight. After the unfollowing started making celebrity news headlines, he addressed it in a since-deleted Instagram Story: “Someone went on my account and unfollowed my wife. Sh*t is getting suss out here.” I know, totally believable, right? Well, surprisingly, it actually might be.

PR Stunt?

Reactions have been all over the place. Some fans are convinced it’s a sign of Justin Bieber’s divorce looming on the horizon, while others think it’s just a PR stunt to generate press for his upcoming music.

One commenter nailed it, writing, “They’re [Justin and Hailey] currently on vacation, so it’s most likely his social media manager running some awful marketing strategy.” Another wasn’t buying it: “Sorry, we’re not falling for the ‘hacked’ excuse anymore.”

My take? This screams marketing tactic. Justin literally just posted a photo of Hailey on his IG story on Monday with the caption, “The greatest woman I have and will ever know.” Unless he’s spiraling or having a manic episode, I don’t think he’s intentionally unfollowing the mother of his new child. He’s also been posting photos of him in the studio and rumors of new music are floating around.

At the end of the day, Justin is 30 years old now, a new dad, and (hopefully) beyond petty social media drama. Let’s face it—if he’s on vacation, his team is probably handling his account. And he and Hailey seem way too happy for them to suddenly be making petty moves like unfollowing each other.
