Thank God Kim’s (Almost) a Lawyer!

Thankfully, she’s a billionaire who can hire a slew of lawyers…

Kim Kardashian is getting sued and despite my lack of expertise in legal jargon, I put on my metaphorical lawyer hat and delved into the details of a recent lawsuit against our favorite Kardashian.

As we know, Kim has made celebrity news and been the subject of countless celebrity rumors over the years for her plans to become a lawyer.

Sadly, she won’t be taking the bar exam until next year, so it looks like we won’t be getting Kim K representing herself in any lawsuits just yet. And if it goes anything like her baby bar exams, we might be waiting a very long time.

Thankfully, she’s a billionaire who can hire a slew of lawyers because according to reports from CNN, the Judd Foundation–representing the estate of late artist Donald Judd, known for his minimalist designs–has filed a lawsuit against Kardashian for promoting cheap knock-offs of his furniture designs.

The issue stems from a now-deleted video posted by Kardashian in 2022, where she gives a tour of her skincare brand’s office and showcases Judd’s furniture as part of the decor.

In the video, she gestures towards the tables and praises their design, stating they blend in well with the rest of the furniture. “These Donald Judd tables are really amazing,” Kardashian exclaims, “and totally blend in with the seats.”

The video gained over 3.6 million views before being taken down recently, despite the Judd family’s attempts to contact Kardashian about it back in 2022. They offered to add a retraction to the video’s description, but the foundation demanded that Kardashian delete the video entirely, issue a public statement, and recycle the imitation furniture.

The foundation claims that the tables shown in the video were not original pieces by Judd, but rather knock-offs. Furthermore, even if they were originals, Kardashian would not have been allowed to use them for promotional purposes as the foundation explicitly prohibits such usage.

Megan Bannigan, a lawyer representing the Judd Foundation, released a statement saying the furniture featured in the video is “lower quality” and stated, “We don’t want to be mixed up with Kim Kardashian. We respect what she does, but we don’t want to be involved with this.”

Originally, the lawsuit targeted interior designers hired by Kardashian’s company–Clements Design in West Hollywood. However, they were able to provide receipts proving that the tables used were “Donald Judd-style” instead of genuine Judd pieces.

Only three sales of the original Judd “La Mansana Table 22” and “Chair 84” designs have been made in the last 15 years, with price tags of $90,000 and $9,000 respectively. It’s unlikely that Kim was one of those buyers.

It is truly disheartening to see that, at this point in her career, Kim K is not using her influential platform to promote products or display artwork in a more responsible manner.
