Stylebender Returns to Reclaim ‘His’ Lost Gold

The SUN, enjoy while it shines. Darkness falls when it’s gone… -Adesanya

When Israel Adesanya lost his middleweight title to Sean Strickland at UFC 293 last September, an onlooking MMA community sat in shock and awe.

Strickland, as a +470-betting underdog, outworked “Stylebender” for 25 straight minutes, collected a unanimous decision win, and sent shockwaves through UFC news media outlets when becoming just the second 185-pounder to defeat the dominant African champ.

Now, following a ten-month hiatus, Izzy announced his octagon return earlier today, and MMA rumors are abuzz despite the lack of confirmation from UFC President Dana White.

Adesanya vs DDP at UFC 305 & Accidental Leak

In unison with the caption: “The SUN of Africa is the same sun that lights up our planet. The SUN will set and will rise again until you walk into it. The SUN, enjoy while it shines. Darkness falls when it’s gone,” Adesanya posted a UFC 305 graphic.

While Dana and the UFC matchmakers haven’t announced the 305 event, which will take place in Perth, Australia, on August 18, the promotion’s head honcho, when announcing Conor McGregor’s recent injury in the ‘War Room’ – a room dedicated to matchmaking – accidentally revealed the UFC 305 lineup.

It wasn’t the first time Dana leaked sensitive information, but I can’t help but think it’s by design. Either way, UFC rumors quickly circulated when sharp-eyed MMA fans noticed, and with Izzy’s confirmation, we have an absolute banger of a fight when the former middleweight title holder takes on the current champ, Dricus Du Plessis.

Praying to the MMA Gods

We can expect a huge build-up between Adesanya and Du Plessis, as the two have previously exchanged heated words in the past. I won’t go into detail regarding the tense, racial nature of their beef, but in short, both men are claiming to be the face of African fighting, and fans have been calling for them to fight for a long time.

My problem is that the UFC seems to be cursed of late. Last week saw several canceled bouts, including fights that involved two huge company stars, Conor McGregor and Khamzat Chimaev.

Hopefully, the MMA gods have forgiven the sinners because the UFC schedule this summer is absolutely stacked, and we cannot bear the thought of any more cancellations sweeping, especially the long-awaited return of “The Last Stylebender” Israel Adesanya!
