I’ve been breaking barriers and making history in real life… – Jake Paul

If you have ever wanted to punch influencer Jake Paul in the face, we have some exciting celebrity news for you. The makers of the Undisputed boxing game have announced that Paul will be a playable character in their game, which was released on PC and current-gen platforms in October.

A trailer for the addition of Paul in the game was teased with a December 12th release date for what is called “The Problem Child Pack” as new DLC for boxing fans to explore.

This comes on the heels of Paul’s very hyped, heavily watched, and harshly criticized boxing match with legend Mike Tyson last month in Texas on Netflix. But the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson fight has no doubt sparked some renewed interest in the sport of boxing, and Undisputed is one of the first major boxing video games in many years.

Should Paul Be in the Game?

I know I’m going to age myself here, but I long for the days when you bought a video game, and everything was available right out of the package. Maybe you had to beat the game to unlock some goodies, but you got what you paid for as a one-time expense, and that usually wasn’t $70 unless you decided to buy a Sega Genesis cartridge game at the mall. Ah yes, nostalgia is winning out here.

But DLC with new fighters is a good way to keep interest growing. Reviews for Undisputed as an authentic boxing game are mixed, but it does feature over 70 licensed boxers from most of the major boxing organizations, including some female fighters.

I’m not sure Paul has done enough in boxing yet to be included among some real legends as they even have a 1964 version of the great Muhammad Ali in the game. Fighting the 1996 retired version of Ali is more Paul’s style.

But at the same time, I totally get it. This is a video game that needs to make money on sales and DLC, so you’re going to include someone who is popular with the youth for his YouTube videos and the success of his WWE-performing brother Logan Paul. Now they can say they’re both in video games.

“I’ve been breaking barriers and making history in real life, so it’s only fitting that I bring the same energy to Undisputed. This isn’t just about being in a video game; it’s about inspiring a new generation of fans to step into the ring—virtually and in real life,” Paul said.

I’m sure the royalty check isn’t bad either. But at the end of the day, inspiring youth is what’s important. Maybe Paul fans get this game and take up boxing and keep the sport alive after some rough years with fans flocking more towards MMA/UFC instead of the traditional ring.

The 27-year-old Paul is unlikely going to be boxing’s savior, but he is doing his part to keep it alive.
