Disrespect: Jones Ducking Continues
[Aspinall] hasn’t proven anything. He hasn’t done anything… – Jon Jones
As a British-born, Irish-blooded man, nothing gets me more riled up than when one of our own gets paired with disrespect in abundance.
Jon Jones’ continued bullsh*t excuses regarding a championship fight with Tom Aspinall, the interim champion to his heavyweight title, show us that he’s not the GOAT Dana White believes he is.
In a recent interview with Kevin Iole, the GOAT was questioned if he’d fight Tom Aspinall after his UFC 309 clash with Stipe Miocic:
“More than likely not. I feel like Aspinall is. I don’t want to say anybody, but he hasn’t proven anything. He hasn’t done anything. I understand he won his belt against Sergei, and Sergei just got slaughtered by someone else, so it’s like, I’m not here to gamble someone else making a name off of me.”
I know this angers millions of UFC fans, and we’re all shaking our heads in disappointment.
Ducking the Interim Champ, SMH
Jones has slandered Aspinall’s name in UFC news since becoming the UFC heavyweight champion, but this is completely by design. He opted to fight Stipe Miocic, who isn’t the rightful No.1 contender, and last appeared in the UFC octagon when getting decapitated by Francis Ngannou in 2021.

With respect to Stipe, Jones knows exactly what he’s doing here. Choosing to fight a 42-year-old, inactive fighter is the easiest path for Jones to protect his legacy, but when all is said and done, he’ll be remembered for ducking the biggest challenges.
“Aspinall hasn’t fought anyone,” would be Jon’s excuse, when in actual fact, Aspinall’s last five wins were against four top-five ranked heavyweights and one top-ten-ranked. More importantly, he finished all of those opponents in the first round!

I suppose I cannot blame Bones Jones; I’d be scared to fight Aspinall, too. He’s an athlete with the skill set capable of nullifying Jon’s wrestling and submission offensive, unlike Ciryl Gane, and he also possesses the hands to defeat Jones and do it emphatically.
On the topic of wrestling, Alex Pereira’s name also entered the fray during this same Kevin Iole interview.

Jon Jones vs. Alex Pereira: Jon Nurmagomedov
Yes, who wouldn’t want to see Jon Jones vs. Alex Pereira? But we know precisely why Jones believes this fight is intriguing, and it has diddly-squat to do with money or legacy.
“If there were to be a fight of a guy that’s still on our UFC, that would be not only financially worth it but also legacy worthy of it, it would be Alex Pereira,” Jones told Iole.
“Omg no way Jon Jones is ducking Tom Aspinall and wants to fight Alex”
Bro was ducking 5’9 DC at heavyweight because of his ko power and people believe he’s gonna face Tom who has more power and speed 😭 pic.twitter.com/t2kqzo7PY3

With a clear hole in his wrestling/grappling, there’s a reason why the UFC has matched Pereira with strikers during his UFC tenure. Jones would quickly become Jon Nurmagomedov because he sees a clear path to victory through wrestling. He obviously doesn’t envision the same with Aspinall.
Jones continued to blabber about weight and how Aspinall was cool today but might be gone tomorrow. In the most disrespectful manner, he then compared the interim champ to Johnny Walker:
“I remember when the world thought Johnny Walker would beat me. No disrespect, but we have seen how his career has played out.”

Comparing Walker to Aspinall is no different than comparing Sam Howell to Patrick Mahomes.
You know what, I’m done. If Jones wants to sail into the sunset without facing the rightful No.1 contender in his division, let him be. However, that greatest of all-time talk in UFC rumors ends here, and we’ll replace that goat with a duck quack.
