Masvidal, Octagon Return, Miami… I’m Sold
Hopefully, by December, we’ve got the opponent and April. Miami card… – Jorge Masvidal
Former UFC title challenger, the first-ever BMF (Bad Mother F*cker) Champion, and the man holding the record for the fastest knockout in UFC history (5 seconds), Jorge Masvidal, has dropped a bombshell on UFC news by announcing his octagon return.
It’s been one year and eight months since we last saw Masvidal step into the octagon, and following this UFC 287 loss to Gilbert Burns, the Miami representative surprisingly announced his retirement.
Fortunately for us fans, Gambred couldn’t stay away, and although a brief stint in the world of boxing versus a familiar foe in Nate Diaz kept him somewhat active, nothing quite beats the bright lights and mesh steel cage of the UFC battleground.

Aged 40, UFC rumors regarding Masvidal’s return do come as a surprise, but during a recent episode of Jake Shields Fight Back podcast, our favorite fighter from the 305 confirmed his expected return date:
“I’ll be back in April next year at the UFC,” Masvidal said. “Hopefully, by December, we’ve got the opponent and April. Miami card.”
Does ‘Gambred’ Still Have It?
Masvidal returning from retirement, in Miami, most likely at a UFC pay-per-view? Damn, ESPN, where do I input my credit card details… I’m sold!
Perhaps I’m living in the glory days of when he finished Ben Askren in five seconds with a flying knee to the skull or the gangster lifestyle he portrayed, most notably when he boxed up Leon Edwards backstage after he had just fought… I don’t know if Gamebred still “has it,” but with the correct opponent, you know we’ll get a scrap!

Speaking of Edwards and Masvidal, this was one of the UFC fights that got away. Since losing the strap to Belal Muhammad, the former welterweight champ has been incredibly quiet, and no fight announcements have been made. Is this the perfect return fight for Masvidal?
Masvidal vs. Edwards in Miami would be lit! Neither man shows much interest in wrestling, thus providing the ingredients to provide an all-out striking war between two legends of the sport who aren’t too far apart in age.
I know I’m just rambling here, but if Masvidal returns to welterweight, I struggle to envision many other options for his return regarding upcoming UFC fights, as we certainly don’t need a third fight with Diaz or a wrestling/grappling-based opponent for Gamebred!

Edwards in London?
Masvidal returning to fight in Miami makes sense. Unfortunately, Edward’s return to 2025’s first London event also makes sense. This could be the roadblock that prevents this speculated fight from taking place, but if just one of these men would surrender their homecoming, we’d be looking at a fight of the year candidate.

Both Edwards and Masvidal hold that star power capable of headlining any fight card in any arena and still drawing the same hype akin to a championship bout. The history is there, the beef is real, and if it comes to fruition in the UK, you best believe I’ll pay the ridiculous scalper prices to witness it live in person!
