NFL vs. NBA: But Make It Boxing
After Tyson-Paul, the bar isn’t exactly high. People just want to be entertained…
The sports entertainment world is still abuzz from last Friday night’s boxing match between legend Mike Tyson and influencer Jake Paul. But while fans were disappointed with the match and Netflix’s ability to stream it live, a couple of heavyweights are hoping to give the streamer another shot at an even bigger event if the celebrity rumors are true.
Retired legends Shaquille O’Neal (NBA) and Rob Gronkowski (NFL) were at the Tyson-Paul match and couldn’t contain their excitement for their idea to host a boxing card with NFL vs. NBA stars, both past and present, to be streamed on Netflix. Talk about exciting NFL news and NBA news!
As for the main event, yep, it would be Gronk vs. Shaq in a heavyweight bout. In fact, this all started when Gronk challenged Shaq to a fight.

It’s no stretch to say the legends may have had some of the devil’s juice in their system at the time of the interview, but they certainly have the business acumen to get something like this together for Netflix or whoever wants to host it live.
Now, good luck getting any active player’s legal team to agree to let them box. But that isn’t going to stop us from musing about the possibilities for a potential fight card, including the main event between Shaq and Gronk, and a fun undercard.
Maybe you could even have George Kittle (49ers) and Giannis Antetokounmpo (Bucks) square off in a WWE-inspired Hell in a Cell match. Kittle would love that.
Main Event: Gronk vs. Shaq
- Rob Gronkowski Stats: 35 years old, 6’6”, 265 pounds
- Shaquille O’Neal Stats: 52 years old, 7’1”, 325 pounds
The first thing you notice with Shaq and Gronk is that despite Gronk being a big dude, he looks much smaller standing next to the mass of humanity known as Shaq.

So, there definitely would be a size advantage for Shaq, but Gronk should have him beat on quickness, which could help him wear down Shaq by having him exert himself. Gronk is also probably one of the few people in the world crazy enough to get in a boxing ring with Shaq.
But I’d still bet on Shaq to win. One heavy punch to the face and that could be lights out for Gronk, who you can picture getting silly and forgetting to defend himself as he’s not a professional boxer.
But it would be a spectacle, and I don’t think it’d even be a debate about who would win in their athletic primes as Shaq was just a beast in the Lakers era.

Point God vs. Shutdown Corner: Chris Paul vs. Marshon Lattimore
- Chris Paul Stats: 39 years old, 6’0”, 175 pounds
- Marshon Lattimore Stats: 28 years old, 6’0”, 192 pounds
A couple of New Orleans draft picks, Chris Paul and Marshon Lattimore would give us our lightweight matchup between an NBA point guard and an NFL corner. We know corners and wide receivers love to get into it, and Lattimore has his history with Mike Evans on the field.

But imagine if we got these two fiery competitors in a boxing ring and let them go at it. Just have to warn Paul not to go below the belt, and I think Lattimore would stand a chance. Just pretend it’s Mike Evans.
Bay Area Anger Management: Draymond Green (Warriors) vs. Trent Williams (49ers)
- Draymond Green Stats: 34 years old, 6’6”, 230 pounds
- Trent Williams Stats: 36 years old, 6’5”, 320 pounds
You want to see some tempers flare? Give Trent Williams the green light to go off on Draymond Green, a player known for getting rough even with his own Golden State teammates.

I’d pay double for Netflix to see this one, and I think a lot of NBA players would be rooting for Williams to whoop his ass.
DIRTY PLAYER.

Williams carrying that extra weight to play linemen would slow him down but imagine how fit he’ll be after he retires and loses it as linemen often do. I think he’d put Green in his place.
Cleveland Fight Night: LeBron James vs. Myles Garrett
- LeBron James Stats: 39 years old, 6’9”, 250 pounds
- Myles Garrett Stats: 28 years old, 6’4”, 272 pounds
We know who Michael Jordan fans would root for in this battle of Cleveland superstars, but LeBron James would leave them in shambles if he knocked out the NFL’s reigning Defensive Player of the Year.
Garrett certainly has an appetite for getting after quarterbacks, but LeBron would have edges in size, reach, and overall athleticism. I generally don’t like to bet against LeBron.

We’ll just have to wait to see what Gronk and Shaq come up with, but after Tyson-Paul, the bar isn’t exactly high. People just want to be entertained.
