Nick Diaz’ Return Might Take Longer Than Expected…

Nick Diaz’ Long-Awaited Return Might Have to Wait a Little Longer Since His Abu Dhabi Fight Was Canceled.

Guess we won’t be seeing Nick any time soon…😒

He certainly isn’t competing for the love of mixed martial arts…

Did you know… Nick Diaz has had more fight cancellations than UFC wins. And another bites the dust as the famed older sibling of the two Diaz Bros – Nick and Nate – was forced to cancel his long-awaited return to the octagon on August 3rd in Abu Dhabi against Vicente Luque.

The co-main event contest was originally scheduled for UFC On ABC 7 this weekend and was on its way to ending Nick Diaz’ three-year hiatus, but travel complications have halted the bout. Instead, Shara Magomedov versus Michal Oleksiejczuk takes the penultimate card position for Saturday’s UAE combat sports festivities.

An Ageing Nick Diaz Isn’t as Serious About MMA As We’d Like

Let’s cut the bullsh*t, shall we? At 40, can we expect a plain-sailing UFC tenure from Nick Diaz, a fighter who barely competed in his thirties?

He isn’t a former champion; he’ll never be a champion, but the fandom garnered from being a ‘Diaz Bro’ mainly thanks to his brother Nate, positions him on a pedestal and often delivers false expectations.

Diaz is 7-7 as a UFC competitor. He hasn’t won a fight since 2011, and the last time we saw him in the octagon at UFC 266, Robbie Lawler absolutely battered him.

With the latest UFC news fight cancellation, it’ll be the tenth time Diaz has been involved in canceled bouts, a statistic higher than his actual UFC victories to date.

Following a turbulent career highlighted by ups and downs within UFC rumors, including a plethora of suspensions and injuries, as well as extended complications with the No.1 fighting promotion, we love his fighting style (if it still exists) and the entertainment he gave us many moons ago, but a history of professional and personal challenges has shadowed his opportunities, and we shouldn’t be surprised if the Luque clash is never rebooked.

Diaz’ Lack of Dedication to the Sport

If you’re old like me, you’ll remember Nick Diaz’s glory days and his rise to earning a title opportunity against the legendary George St-Pierre. However, the new generation of MMA fans must look at Nick Diaz as some kind of joke.

It took Diaz two years to recover from his 2013 loss to GSP, and when Anderson Silva handed him another loss, the man went missing for another six years. Upon his return, Lawler, a fellow aging fighter, forced him to retire mid-fight, and we have to start wondering… What does he really have left to give to combat sports?

Is Nick broke, bored, or both? He certainly isn’t competing for the love of mixed martial arts, as an inconsistent commitment ranging from contentious suspensions and failed media appearances have been proving factors of this.

Who knows what’s next for Nick Diaz or whether a rebooking versus Luque will surface? Consistent injuries and past dramas will always be a concern, so I wouldn’t hold your breath for a reignited comeback.
