They Don’t Call Him ‘Money’ Moicano for Nothing…

Ironically, Moicano introduced an all-new nickname for himself, ‘Money’…

Get choked and take home close to a million dollars… Sign me up!?

It would seem I’ve pursued the wrong career after witnessing the UFC 311 main event payouts.

Renato Moicano, the short-notice replacement for Arman Tsarukyan in a UFC lightweight title bout last weekend, revealed the staggering sum he received for four minutes of work.

He didn’t dethrone the pound-for-pound No.1 Makhachev, nor did he achieve the dream of becoming a UFC champion, but to earn over $3,500 per second… Well, that isn’t a bad paycheck for his efforts.

During a recent episode of his YouTube podcast, the Brazilian discussed his recent octagon outing, including the six-figure number he was offered to compete.

In total, Moicano took over $950,000, sending shockwaves through UFC news.

Ironically, Moicano introduced an all-new nickname for himself, ‘Money,’ in November 2022.

Ever since, he’s spoken about not being able to afford to lose, and this manifestation has seemingly paid dividends as his UFC 311 payout was the biggest of his 11-year UFC tenure.

Get Choked and Become a Millionaire

Many will wonder how and why Moicano was paid so much… Well, that’s the beauty of accepting a short-notice fight to save Dana White and co’s pay-per-view main event.

Originally, Moicano was scheduled to face Beneil Dariush. This wouldn’t been a No.10-ranked (Moicano) fighter going against the No.9-ranked (Dariush) in a battle of rankings supremacy. However, with the division’s No.1 contender, Tsarukyan, topping UFC rumors by pulling out with less than 24 hours remaining until show time, it presented Money-Moic with the opportunity to fill in as the contender’s replacement.

Unfortunately for the Brazilian and his ever-growing fan base, the Dagestani machine, Makhachev, made light work of the short-notice opponent switch-up. Four minutes, five seconds, 18 strikes, one takedown, and 1 minute, 27 seconds of ground control later, and the champ, living up to his pound-for-pound status, locked in a D’arce choke with an anaconda like-grip to secure his 15th straight UFC win and newly formed record as the most decorated lightweight fighter in UFC history with five title wins.

Moicano was disappointed, but I’m sure the near-million payday eased the pain and then some.

What’s Next for Money Moicano?

In all honesty, Moicano, aged 35, isn’t likely to receive another opportunity at gold. He’s No.10 in the rankings, and with such a lopsided defeat, he’ll need to deliver an amazing streak to reach the top of a disgustingly talented 155lb weight class.

That said, his career isn’t over, and with an ongoing beef brewing with fellow lightweight Paddy Pimblett, the cash could continue rolling for Money, and he’ll undoubtedly have a more favorable set of UFC betting odds in such a bout compared to the force that is Makhachev.

Moicano remains a fan favorite, which should assist him in plenty of big-money fights. More importantly, where do I notify Dana White that I’m willing to step up on short notice, anytime, any place? I’ll get choked for a Milly, no problem.
