Canelo Isn’t Fighting Crawford Anymore

We’ve waited years to see two of the most accomplished fighters go toe-to-toe…

As a fellow boxing purist, the last thing I want to do is ruin your day, but sadly, the boxing news I’m about to deliver will do exactly that.

Canelo Alvarez vs. Terrance Crawford has long circulated boxing rumors. Just two days ago, we received information that all but confirmed the clash of pugilist greats was going to take place in Las Vegas at the Allegiant Stadium in September later this year. Frustratingly, 48 hours later, one of the biggest fights in combat sports has allegedly been scrapped!

Sources close to The Ring shared disappointing information, explaining how Canelo and Crawford’s highly anticipated super middleweight showdown has been canceled.

As we can often take such announcements with a pinch of salt, optimism is usually our fallback, but in this case, as Turki Alashikh, the man responsible for creating Canelo vs. Crawford in the first place, is also the owner of The Ring Magazine that dropped the bombshell, it would seem the source is pretty damn legitimate, and this devastating announcement is likely to be true.

As fans of the sport, we’ve waited years to see two of the most accomplished fighters go toe-to-toe in this mega fight. But that dream super fight has now seemingly evaporated, and we await more details on what exactly prevented the contract signing from going forward.

If It’s Jake Paul’s Fault, We Riot

As we impatiently wait for explanations regarding the cancellation of Canelo vs. Crawford, there could be one man to blame, and if true, it’s going to piss a lot of people off!

Two names, one word: Canelo vs. Jake Paul.

At this point, we’re only speculating. Still, since headlines regarding Canelo have been attached to Jake Paul this week, many fear that the Crawford contest might have failed due to the Mexican star’s interest in fighting The Problem Child.

Paul, 28, is a former YouTuber who undeniably took the boxing world by storm. The Ohio native has exceeded expectations in the ring to date, beating a long list of former UFC fighters. More to the point, he’s long expressed a desire to fight Canelo.

However, Paul vs. Canelo is a boxing fan’s worst nightmare. The inexperienced and low-level opposition Paul has faced to date doesn’t warrant a fight with one of the sport’s most decorated stars. Yet, here we are, and as the rumors grow, Canelo’s canceled fight with Crawford only ignites the fire we dreaded.

If true, I say, we riot.

The Spanner in the Works

Now that Canelo isn’t fighting Crawford, the spanner in the works thrown at us by boxing journalist Julius Julianis might just come to fruition. He reported Paul vs. Cancelo earlier this week, and while critics like myself didn’t want to believe it, it’s becoming more of a reality as each day passes.

Hopefully, it’s nothing but hearsay. That said, we know Canelo loves the mullah, and he’s already admitted that he’d fight anyone if the money’s right, including Jake Paul.

“Whenever I’ve spoken to Canelo about Jake Paul, he’s always said, ‘Pay me the money, and I’ll fight him,’” Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn said.

It might not be the fight we want, but at least we hit the boxing betting odds hard in favor of Canelo because there isn’t a chance he will lose to Paul in this century or the next!
