Bonfire Night Will Bang, and so Will Paul and Tyson

Jake Paul is getting knocked out. – Mike Tyson

As we previously discussed – Mike Tyson suffered a health scare regarding a flared-up ulcer, and although it was confirmed his scheduled bout with Jake Paul on July 20 was still on, that didn’t end up being the case.

With the July 20 date canceled, onlookers began to panic that Tyson wouldn’t make an in-ring return whatsoever. I was one of those skeptics, but breaking boxing news has, in fact, revealed a rescheduled date for the highly anticipated heavyweight bout, which is set to mark Netflix’s debut in live-streaming combat sports.

Paul vs Tyson Has a New Date

Jake Paul will still face heavyweight legend Mike Tyson…but the widely discussed boxing bout has been rescheduled for November 15, 2024.

Boxing rumors about Tyson’s ability to compete at age 59 have been consistent since the fight was first announced. With the recent health concerns, it’s difficult to argue against those who believe it’s a bad idea altogether.

I’m all for watching Tyson flatline Paul with a right hook from hell, but let’s be honest, no matter how much experience Jake doesn’t have, several factors are swaying in his favor, and the ‘Iron Mike’ we know and love, might not even possess 25% of the in-ring capabilities he once used to.

The repercussions for Tyson are significantly higher than for a young buck like Paul, who’s notably never been knocked out during his short boxing career. Long-term damage for the former heavyweight champ is a reality, and the risk of brain damage is certainly heightened for a man of his age.

That said, he’s a warrior at heart and still promises fans that he’ll end Paul no matter the date.

Tyson Releases a Statement on New Date

“Although we had to postpone the fight, I will resume training shortly,” Tyson said. “I am thankful to the medical staff that treated me and to MVP, Netflix, and AT&T Stadium for working diligently to find the best-rescheduled date for all parties.”

“While we have a new date, the result will be the same no matter when we fight. Jake Paul is getting knocked out. Watch this in person on Friday, November 15, at AT&T Stadium or live on Netflix.”

I hate to put a downer on the hype, but Dana White said it best:

“Under any circumstances, a f*cking almost 60-year-old man shouldn’t be fighting a 27-year-old guy, even if it’s Mike Tyson.”
