Big Upset Alert! 🚨
This was not going to be a typical night after a hellacious version of the national anthem…
If the All-Star game is the entrée, then the annual MLB Home Run Derby is the appetizer, and on Monday night the Dodgers’ Teoscar Hernandez was an unexpected Chef de Cuisine as he made MLB news by defeating the Royals Bobby Witt Jr. to take home the hardware.

Longshot Wins It All
Thirty-one-year-old Teoscar Hernandez is the Dodgers’ center fielder who’s got a little boom-boom in his bat but has eclipsed 30 home runs only once in his career. To put his chances of winning the Derby into perspective, this season Hernandez has 19 dingers over his 95 MLB games which places him tied for 14th with five other players. Good but certainly not the biggest banger of the bunch.

Therefore, it wasn’t a surprise that some of the best online betting sites like BetUS installed him as a long shot to defeat the likes of Pete Alonso, Gunnar Henderson, or Bobby Witt Jr. But this was not going to be a typical night after a hellacious version of the national anthem that precipitated the festivities.

MLB rumors were swirling that Bobby Witt was the real threat in this competition and he was there at the end but bowed, 14-13, to Hernandez who brought home the cash for all those who believed in the nine-year veteran. Speaking of cash, Hernandez got a $1 million payday for his efforts but that’s chump change for a guy who’s making over $23 million this season.
Star Strangled Banner
I had never heard of country music singer Ingrid Andress but now I have and so too have millions more after she set X ablaze, along with every other social media platform, following her performance on Monday night. If you haven’t heard it yet, congratulations, you’ve been saved. But those who have can now empathize with the legions of professional athletes who experience the agonizing postretirement effects of CTE.

This is not someone who won a raffle and got to sing The Star Bangled Banner at the Home Run Derby as a grand prize. She’s a 4x Grammy-nominated country singer but good God almighty she sang the anthem like a drunk chick at a low-rent karaoke bar.
But I’ll say this much – Ingrid Andress gave this pre-All-Star event more publicity than it’s had in decades. At least she maintained the whole baseball theme by turning a hit into an error, or should I say error, after error, after error. I’ve heard better noise at construction sites but at least she can’t be accused of lip-syncing.

Look, if anyone’s at fault, it’s her manager. Whoever that is, had to hear her in rehearsals and tell her that she has as much chance of hitting those high notes as Kim Kardashian does of passing a Mensa exam.
Her “More Hearts Than Mine” smash single has over 41 million views – up from two dozen in the past 24 hours – and if you bother to check it out (I did) her country twang is easy listening but sometimes you just have to stay in your lane. Unfortunately, Ms. Ingrid swerved hard to the left, jumped the median, and ultimately crashed and burned.

If she’s got a savvy PR team, they’ll turn this into a win just like Tiffany Gomas did. You know, the crazy plane lady whose famous line was “That motherf*cker is not real.” She’s gone on an apology tour of sorts and, well, she’s hot, so she’s forgiven…at least by the dudes. Hopefully, Ingrid will do the same because everyone deserves a mulligan.
