Fergie 🤝 Ingrid Andress

I’m not gonna bullshit y’all, I was drunk last night. – Ingrid Andress

In unity, we should all take hold of microphones and record ourselves singing the national anthem to see if it truly is as challenging as it seems. If it is, we should ban it from being performed by anyone who isn’t on par with Whitney Houston.

On Monday, Grammy-nominated recording artist, Ingrid Andress, made MLB news for reasons no singer would ever want to. She arrived at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas to kick off the event as planned before the MLB Home Run Derby. However, her rendition left fans shocked.

Seriously, imagine being an alien visiting Earth and you’re looking down on a baseball game and see this:

The Performance Goes Mega Viral

When this performance first hit social media, a lot of people thought it was some elaborate parody put on to mock all the horrendous renditions of the national anthem we’ve been subjected to over the years (queue the 2018 Fergie National Anthem that we’re all still recovering from).

But this was very real and very, very hard to watch. Arguably worse than Fergie’s performance, which is saying a lot. Honestly, the little girl who sang at the Pacers game a few months ago blew this Home Run Derby 2024 performance out of the water.

The most cringe-worthy aspect wasn’t simply her lack of ability to hit any note in the song. It was her misguided attempt to make the Star Spangled Banner sexy, with her unnatural vocal fry and pouting expressions.

Why do some people insist on singing a song that is outside of their vocal range? Do they not realize they can choose not to perform it? Are they being coerced into doing so? These are the questions we all want answers to.

She’s a Great Singer

As previously mentioned, Ingrid Andress is not just any random singer plucked from obscurity. She is a Grammy-nominated country artist with a repertoire of songs that are actually quite fantastic.

Some popular Ingrid Andress songs include “More Hearts Than Mine” and “Wishful Drinking” which were both nominated for Grammy awards. It’s really not that she’s a bad singer, but her voice is not suited for the national anthem.

Just check out this performance she did on Ellen:

While she may not have the powerhouse vocals of Aretha Franklin, her singing style is pleasant and fitting. So, the lesson learned here is that no artist should ever agree to perform the national anthem, under any circumstances.

Ingrid Addresses the Criticism

In a statement shared on her Instagram story Tuesday morning, Ingrid announced that was intoxicated during her performance and is professional seeking help. “I’m not gonna bullshit y’all, I was drunk last night. I’m checking myself into a facility today to get the help I need.” She added later in the post, “I’ll let you know how rehab is I hear it’s super fun. xo, Ingrid.”
