Sisters Tee Up for Tiger Woods’ TGL Golf League: A Powerhouse Partnership
Tennis star Serena Williams’ husband, Alexis Ohanian, has teamed up with the Williams sisters to join Tiger Woods’ TGL Golf League.
What ‘s the TGL?
Turning to the latest golf news, we focus our attention on The TGL (Team Golf League), a newly formed enterprise created by Tigers Woods and Rory McIlroy in partnership with the PGA Tour. There will be six teams of three PGA Tour golfers and they will compete on Monday nights on a virtual golf course that will be held in a brand-new state-of-the-art arena at Palm Beach Gardens on the Palm Beach State College campus beginning in January 2024.
TGL has sold its first team — Los Angeles Golf Club — to Serena Williams and Alexis O’Hanian.

According to golf news the players will hit into a golf simulator and the shot will be broadcast in the venue and on television. Because there will be no walking required on this virtual course, an 18-hole round of golf will take roughly an hour to complete versus the four-plus hours on a regular golf course.
The brevity of the tech-infused game is expected to maximize fan engagement and enhance the experience which will be contained within an arena setting, similar to basketball, hockey, or even a small football stadium. Every fan will have a front-row seat and nobody will have to endure the scorching heat, misty conditions, or whatever conditions Mother Nature dictates.
“We all know what it’s like to be in a football stadium or a basketball arena where you can watch every play, every minute of action unfold right in front of you,” said 15-time major champion Woods upon the announcement of the competition last year.
“It’s something that inherently isn’t possible in traditional golf – and an aspect of TGL that will set it apart and appeal to a new generation of fans.”

Serena, Venus, and Alexis
Golf rumors continued to swirl as to which team would be the first to sign with TGL but the speculation ended once the owners of the Los Angeles Golf Club; Serena and Venus Williams coupled with Serena’s husband and Reddit founder, Alexis Ohanian, put their names on the dotted line.
“We’re honored to welcome Alexis, Serena, and Venus as one of TGL’s original six team ownership groups,” TGL’s CEO Mike McCarley said in his announcement of the partnership. “Through his ownership of Angel City FC, Alexis has established himself as a trailblazer in the Southern California professional sports scene. … Serena and Venus represent an important part of not just TGL’s mission of access to sports for kids and families, but also an important part of the spirit and purpose of the LA Golf Club.”
In August, Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, and former Golf Channel president Mike McCarley co-founded TMRW Sports.

And in a rather unique twist, Ohanian and Williams’ daughter, five-year-old Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr., has also been included in the ownership team. She is also part of Angel City FC’s star-studded celebrity ownership group of which her father and mother are co-founders.
And not to be left out, Serena is pregnant with their second child who will also inherit a stake in both franchises.
“To wit, my wife Serena and I are delighted that Olympia has taken a liking to golf, so I’m proud to announce that they’re both owners in this club as well – as is the little one on the way,” Ohanian said in a statement.
“This is another piece of the legacy I’m building with my family, and I hope LAGC can become a part of many other families’ lives too,” he added.
