Former NBA Star Jeff Teague Says His Big 3 Team Will Dominate the USA 3×3 Olympic Team

The current roster for Team USA at the 2024 Paris Olympics is arguably the greatest collection of basketball talent ever. However, they’re not the only Team USA playing basketball in the Summer Olympics.

Big Disappointment

It’s easy to forget that there’s also a 3×3 Olympic team for the USA and they turned out to be a major disappointment. The 3×3 team featured Jimmer Fredette, Canyon Barry, Kareem Maddox, and Dylan Travis. They ended up going 2-5 in pool play and didn’t medal.

Out of the team, Fredette was the only one who had played in NBA games. This is something that irked former NBA player Jeff Teague. He’s now in the Big 3, which features a lot of former NBA players and he thinks his team would’ve done a better job.

“It would have been dope,” Teague said on his podcast. “And we woulda have more talent in there. They would have to pay, though. We would’ve gotten Joe, Beas, and Jordan Crawford. We woulda have killed them. It would have been lit, bro. I could’ve been a sub. We would’ve gotten a gold medal, sh*t.”

Is Jeff Teague Right?

At the very least, Teague’s Big 3 team couldn’t have been much worse than the USA’s 3×3 team. His team features Rashard Lewis, Greg Monroe, and Marquis Teague, who all played in the NBA.

Now, they are all older so they aren’t as athletic as they once were but they were able to play the game at the highest level.

I’m not really sure what goes into picking the 3×3 team. Surely, there have to be some real NBA players eligible to play, no? Why not get Jaylen Brown, Damian Lillard, and some other stars who didn’t make Team USA on that squad?

Maybe NBA players don’t want to play in the 3×3 tournament but it would be exciting NBA news if it happened. I’m kinda into the idea of having some former NBA players playing in the tournament. It’d be super fun to see some recently retired players get in on the action. I think Teague is onto something and USA Basketball should listen.
