I mean, I want them to come at me every day… -Angel Reese

We have all witnessed the numerous clips of Caitlin Clark being elbowed, shoved, and pushed on the court. And now, with rookie Angel Reese’s recent game, in which she was practically clotheslined by Alyssa Thomas, WNBA rumors are swirling that behavior might be a form of hazing from the more experienced players.

No Hiding

In case you missed it, during Saturday night’s 86-82 victory against the Chicago Sky, Connecticut Sun’s leading player, Alyssa Thomas, made WNBA news by being ejected in the latter part of the third quarter after receiving a flagrant foul 2 for her actions towards rookie Angel Reese.

Prior to the game, Reese shared with reporters her admiration for Thomas, a fellow athlete who also attended Maryland, where Reese first started her college career before transferring to LSU. Later, Reese maintained that her opinion of Thomas had not changed and that there were “no hard feelings” between them. Reese also stated that she did not believe Thomas’ foul was intentional.

Love for the Game

I mean, I want them to come at me every day,” Reese said. “I want them to come at everybody. I mean, they’re not supposed to be nice to me. I hope y’all know that. They’re not supposed to be nice to me or lay down because I’m Angel Reese or because I’m a rookie. Like, thank you, AT, for sending the message to me, because I got back up, and I kept going and kept pushing.

When questioned about the possibility of Thomas trying to convey a message from an experienced player to a newcomer, Reese responded, “It’s not just because I’m a rookie. I’m a player. And I’m a basketball player. They don’t give a damn if I’m a rookie.

I have to admit, I agree with Angel Reese. I don’t think the veteran players give a damn about who’s a rookie or not. They want to win and will do whatever it takes to achieve that. And honestly, the amount of media attention and backlash the league is getting just shows how much the WNBA is growing in popularity. There’s just more eyes on them now.

Basketball fans have been frustrated with the NBA for a while now, it’s refreshing to see some drama from WNBA games, too. Keep poppin’ off, ladies!
