Incredible Weekend 🔥

Spaun finished at 1-under 279, the only golfer to break par in the event.

The US Open course at Oakmont was criticized for being too difficult. In golf news, the US Open is supposed to be difficult. Of all the tournaments during the year, this major is regarded as the most challenging.

J.J. Spaun wasn’t on anyone’s mind in golf stats before he fired a 66 in the first round. Still, everyone was waiting for him to falter. He struggled to start the final round but overcame rain and Oakmont for a two-stroke victory over Robert MacIntyre.

Spaun finished with a flourish, notching a birdie on 17 and then finding the bottom of the cup with a 64 1⁄2-foot putt for a birdie on the 72nd hole.

Spaun’s stats coming into the tournament saw him the winner of the Valerio Open years ago. That was his lone victory until Sunday.

The toughness of the course evened the field as opposed to the ones when players shoot low round after round.

Spaun finished at 1-under 279, the only golfer to break par in the event.

Caitlin Clark weighed in on how treacherous a course Oakmont is.

NBA, NHL Coming Down to the Finish

This will be the final week of the season for the NHL and NBA. The Stanley Cup and Lawrence O’Brien Trophy will be settled. In NBA news, the Thunder have two of the remaining three games in the Finals at home (if necessary). They are heavy favorites after evening the series with a come-from-behind win at Indiana.

In NHL games, the Panthers are positioned to win the NHL championship at home on Tuesday. Don’t jump to conclusions; it will get done because they were in a similar position against the Edmonton Oilers last season and were stretched to a seventh game.

The most remarkable part of the Panthers’ playoff run has been Brad Marchand. The longtime Boston Bruin acquired at the trade deadline has been nothing short of amazing. The 37-year-old has been unstoppable no matter who has been in the net for Edmonton. Check out Brad Marchand’s stats:

Marchand evokes memories of when the New York Islanders acquired Butch Goring from the LA Kings in their glory days. A trade deadline acquisition who makes the difference in a team winning the Stanley Cup or Stanley Cups (s).

There are already NHL rumors about whether the Bruins would try and re-sign Marchand as a free agent. The Panthers would do well to consider keeping Marchand on their roster.

As an aside, the NHL and NBA are all about stretching these championship series out. It has hurt momentum when it comes to following and watching. The leagues should work together – joke! – and have the games every other day. There is no need for multiple days off in this series. Let the NHL play one day, the NBA the next, and so on. Dragging these series out the way they are currently scheduled is doing no favors to anyone, players, fans, and likely overall interest.

Daniel Suarez Wins in Mexico

A special story is one of the top ones. Not one of the major sports, but one that had a charming ending on Saturday. Xfinity Series driver Daniel Suarez wrecked in qualifying. He had to go to a backup car. The auto didn’t have all the decals, which meant how quickly there had to be a quick turnaround to get it read.

In Xfinity NASCAR news, coming from the back of the pack to the front on a road course is next to impossible. That’s exactly what Suarez did, winning in his native country of Mexico. It led to a huge celebration.
