Turns Out Tiger Is Just Like Us…

I just screwed up. That was embarrassing. – Tiger Woods

Tiger Woods recently made golf news for all the wrong reasons at a recent TGL golf match when he came up well short of the green due to a laughable miscommunication with his caddy.

Coming Up Short

Golf and sex are about the only two things you can enjoy even if you’re not good at them, and I stand guilty as charged on both counts. With that said, I think we can all appreciate those moments when a professional athlete does something that is usually reserved for us mere mortals.

Such was the case at a recent TGL event in which Tiger Woods came up dreadfully short of the green, something all too common to us duffers. However, unlike us, Tiger had a pretty good reason for his ineffectual chip shot.

You see, this is indoor golf, arena style, with fans sitting in the stands and watching golfers the same way they’d watch an NBA game. Therefore, the golfers are looking at a screen as opposed to the real thing, which changes their perception a bit. And perhaps that had something to do with one of Tiger’s “most embarrassing moments.”

Woods asked his caddy to confirm the yardage, and the caddy replied “99,” which really meant 199 yards, but it is customary to drop the first number when relaying obvious yardage. Why is this a thing? Can they not muster the strength to breathe an extra syllable? A clue, I have not.

Having a Laugh

Anyway, Tiger hit a perfectly fine wedge shot that traveled about a hundred yards, which would have been right on the money had the hole been 99, and not 199, yards away. When the shot landed, the laughter began. Kevin Kisner and Tom Kim, Tiger’s Jupiter Links teammates, doubled over and ultimately hit the floor in hysterics.

“I heard 99 yards, so I went out there and hit it,” the 15-time major champion said after losing the 13th hole against Cameron Young of New York Golf Club.

“One of the most embarrassing moments in my golfing career just happened,” Woods said on the ESPN telecast, laughing amid the disbelief. “I just screwed up. That was embarrassing.”

The Tiger Woods net worth is somewhere north of $1.3 billion, so if this new golf league of his doesn’t take flight, then he’ll no doubt still be laughing all the way to the bank. Nevertheless, it was a moment that the average weekend golfer could appreciate, even if we come up short because we mishit, not because we misheard.

This new-look indoor league takes a little while to get used to, but once you figure out the rules and the way the putting greens and the bunkers literally transform on the surface of SoFi Stadium, it’s actually pretty interesting. And better yet, you can bet on golf, even TGL golf!

That’s right, BetUS has betting odds currently available with all six teams in the league, including the favorite, the Bay Golf Club, as well as the Los Angeles Golf Club, New York Golf Club, Bay Golf Club, Atlanta Drive GC, Jupiter Links GC, and the long shot, the Boston Common Golf Club.

So, tune in and get down on the TGL. It’s worth the watch, especially if you cash your bet!
