A’ja Wilson

First on the list is A’ja Wilson, a rising star in the WNBA news whose tribute was written by Tom Brady, a familiar face on the influential list himself.

Wilson has made headlines for her numerous achievements, including two WNBA championships with the Las Vegas Aces, three WNBA MVP awards, an NCAA title at the University of South Carolina, and even an Olympic gold medal.

Brady describes her asnot just a champion; she is a symbol of resilience, compassion, and unwavering dedication.

Max Verstappen

Next up is Max Verstappen, a three-time F1 champion. TIME’s senior sports correspondent Sean Gregory writes that Verstappen is “so confident behind the wheel that during at least one race he’s been able to keep an eye on the screens around the track in order to watch the battle going on behind him.”

In an article about Verstappen published by TIME last November, American racing legend Mario Andrett says in the interview, “Max is a talent that comes once in a generation. He’s a tiger inside.”

Patrick Mahomes

Also on the list is the KC Chiefs QB. You need not analyze Patrick Mahomes stats to recognize the massive impact he’s had on the NFL. His name has become synonymous with success in both NFL news and entertainment news in recent years.

At only 27 years old, Mahomes already has three Super Bowl victories and six consecutive appearances in the AFC Championship Game since joining the Kansas City Chiefs in 2018.

His tribute was written by Alex Rodriguez, a familiar face to Mahomes due to his own father’s MLB career. Rodriguez recalls the words of Mahomes following his third SB win, “We didn’t let other people’s outside noise affect us. Even though we struggled throughout the season, we kept our minds in the right places. Whenever the lights got the brightest, guys showed up.”

Jenni Hermoso

Jenni Hermoso, the Spanish soccer pro, was recognized for her impressive accomplishments on the field, as well as her brave advocacy off the field. Her tribute was penned by retired pro soccer player and athlete advocate Mana Shim. In her entry, Shim praised Hermoso for not only being a prolific goal scorer (she holds the record for most goals scored for Spain’s women’s team) but also for using her platform to speak out against sexual harassment in the sport.

Mark Cuban

Another well-known figure in the world of sports who received attention this year was Mark Cuban, the owner of the Dallas Mavericks. While Cuban’s influence in the NBA is undeniable, his recognition likely stems from his entrepreneurial ventures in the pharmaceutical field and his charitable endeavors outside of basketball.
