The RB17 embraces everything we stand for undeniable power, speed, and beauty. – Newey

Red Bull’s F1 wiz Adrian Newey just dropped his ultimate dream ride: the RB17! This isn’t your average car – only 50 lucky folks will get their hands on one, and it comes with a price tag that could buy a private island (think $6.2 million!). For Newey, it’s a labor of love, cramming F1 racetrack speed into a street-legal car you can actually customize. Maybe this is a hint of what’s next for this engineering legend.

A Hypercar Like No Other

Newey just showed off his latest creation at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, and let’s just say it’s insane. The RB17 is a monster hypercar built for two, with a crazy-light carbon fiber body and a mid-engine that screams to life at 15,000 rpm. Weighing less than a ton and packing over 1,200 horsepower, this beast promises to hit racetrack speeds and fly past 200 mph.

Red Bull Racing’s Team Principal Christian Horner hailed the RB17 as a “future classic.” He emphasized that the project is one of the most authentic and exciting ventures undertaken by Red Bull Advanced Technologies. “With 20 years of legacy in the world of F1 to draw from, and as a performance-centered organization, it only made sense for us to design our own hypercar from the ground up,” said Horner.

What sets the RB17 apart is not just its performance but also its customization options. Each of the 50 units will be bespoke, allowing owners to tailor everything from the exterior paint color to interior materials. Red Bull promises a full customer journey, including driver development and car tailoring to suit individual needs.

Newey highlighted the importance of the two-seater aspect, allowing the thrill of driving at F1 speeds to be shared. “The RB17 hypercar embraces everything we stand for: undeniable power, speed, and beauty. It is very adaptable in its abilities, and we made sure to design it as a two-seater so that the thrill of driving at F1 speeds can be enjoyed with a friend or partner,” Newey explained.

Newey’s Future in Motorsport

The launch of the RB17 comes amid F1 rumors about Newey’s future. With one foot out of Red Bull, speculation about his next move is rife. F1 news suggests Newey is keen to remain in England, making Aston Martin and McLaren potential new employers.

Newey has a storied history with McLaren, having worked there from 1997 to 2005 and designing championship-winning cars for Mika Häkkinen. His expertise and innovative approach make him one of the most sought-after engineers in the F1 paddock.

The RB17 hypercar might also signal a new direction for Newey. His passion for creating street high-performance vehicles is evident in this project, and it could mark the beginning of a new chapter in his illustrious career. “I had been mulling around the idea to take on the challenge to design our very own hypercar, from concept to delivery, for many years, and it has been a magnificent project and journey,” Newey shared at the launch.

The jury’s still out on whether Newey will be back in F1 schedule next year, but one thing’s for sure – you can get your hands on a piece of his genius right now with the RB17! This hypercar is pure magic, so line up and snag yours before they’re all gone!
