I still don’t think this movie should cost anywhere near $300 million…

The popularity of F1 continues to grow and that will only continue thanks to “Drive to Survive” and its upcoming series of Brad Pitt movies. It’s clear that Pitt and Apple Original Films believe that there’s a significant amount of interest in the sport as it might be one of the most expensive movies ever made, according to F1 rumors.

Money Moves

Puck’s Matthew Belloni dropped the F1 news that Pitt’s movie which currently doesn’t have a title will have a budget of $300 million. For context, “Barbie” was last year’s highest-grossing movie and only had a budget between $128–145 million.

Movie budgets are seriously getting out of control and I’m not sure why any movie would need to cost $300 million, especially one that’s just about car racing. This seems like a money laundering scheme and doesn’t make me feel great about this movie’s potential.

Lewis Hamilton Is Going to Heavily Involved

Lewis Hamilton is going to take a break from his busy F1 schedule to be involved with the movie. Not only does he have an acting role but will also serve as a producer. He should help keep things authentic for F1 fans.

The cast will also include Damson Idris, Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies, Lewis Hamilton, Javier Bardem, and Sarah Niles. It will be directed by “Top Gun: Maverick” director Joseph Kosinski. One thing that sounds cool is I guess the plan is to train the actors to drive F1 race cars. That sounds much better than CGI vomit all over the screen.

I still don’t think this movie should cost anywhere near $300 million but I’m guessing a fair chunk of that is going to Brad Pitt’s bank account. Regardless, I’m guessing the movie will be pretty exciting. Kosinski is a competent filmmaker and there’s clearly a lot of backing behind. Here’s hoping it’s not just an overindulgent vanity project for Pitt.
