Ant’s Explosive Rant

We soft as hell as a team, internally… Just like we playing with a bunch of little kids. – Edwards

After Minnesota’s fourth consecutive loss on Wednesday night, Anthony Edwards made NBA news when he called out his team for playing soft, putting the blame on everyone, including himself.

Wolves Not the Same Without KAT

Minnesota made an impressive postseason run last year that saw them sweep the Suns in the first round, followed by a shocking upset of the Nuggets in seven games before falling to Dallas in the Western Conference Finals. The team had talent and chemistry, but the latter seems to be lacking this year, and there’s a damn good reason for that.

There’s an old saying: if it’s not broken, don’t fix it. Apparently, the Timberwolves C-suite never got the memo because they not only traded a calming presence in the locker room but also a 4x All-Star in Karl-Anthony Towns Jr., who was more than willing to cede his role as the club’s main man to the young messiah, Anthony Edwards. KAT was also active in the community and a fixture on the team since the T-Wolves drafted him with the first overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft out of Kentucky.

NBA rumors were swirling about the Wolves being involved in a deal, and on September 28th, those suspicions were confirmed when they shipped KAT out of town shortly before the season began. In exchange, the Wolves got Julius Randle, Donte DiVincenzo, and a first-round draft pick.

But what they also got was a dispirited locker room that no longer had the Big KAT to look up to when things were going south. The Timberwolves are in the midst of a four-game losing streak, and Anthony Edwards has had enough.

Playing Soft

After their first 18 NBA games, Minnesota finds themselves with an 8-10 record and out of the playoff picture if time stood still and the postseason began today. The shakeup to the Minnesota Timberwolves roster has seen a young team on the rise suddenly plunge to an afterthought on everyone’s schedule. Anthony Edwards decided it was time to speak out after Minny’s embarrassing 115-104 loss to the Kings.

“We soft as hell as a team, internally,” Edwards said. “Not to the other team, but internally, we soft. We can’t talk to each other. Just a bunch of little kids. Just like we playing with a bunch of little kids. Everybody, the whole team. We just can’t talk to each other. And we’ve got to figure it out because we can’t go down this road.”

The young star’s frustration came gushing out after Wednesday night’s loss to Sacramento, but if we take a quick peek at Anthony Edwards’ stats, we find that he’s averaging 2.2 more points per game than last year, from 26.9 to 28.1 PPG. Nevertheless, Edwards includes himself in the team’s recent loss and its malaise this season.

“I’m (going to) put this one on me,” Edwards said. “We made all the right plays. If I’m the guy, I’ve got to make those shots down the stretch. I missed a couple of shots and they made shots. So, I’m (going to) take this one.”
