The ANT Show Has Arrived 🐜
[Anthony Edwards] has something that a lot of great players don’t have: Aura.
There might not be a faster-rising star in American sports right now than Anthony Edwards. The former No. 1 pick has been a household name for a few years but his status skyrocketed during the Timberwolves most recent playoff run.
Now that he’s a huge star, Netflix has partnered with him on Starting 5 docuseries that also features Jimmy Butler, LeBron James, Domantas Sabonis, and Jayson Tatum. Despite the fact that three of those players have been some of the faces of the NBA for the last decade, it was Edwards who got the most badass intro on the series.
They saved Edwards for the very last moment of the first episode when LeBron is talking about who he doesn’t want to stop playing NBA games until somebody better comes along. The show then cuts to a voiceover from Edwards.

It was a really cold way to introduce Edwards in the series and it may signal some big things coming.
Is Anthony Edwards the Next Face of the NBA?
The NBA has been looking for a new face ever since LeBron started getting older. Anthony Edwards’ stats aren’t as good as Nikola Jokic and Luka Doncic and Anthony Edwards’ shoes may not be the biggest seller but he has something that a lot of great players don’t have: Aura.
Netflix wouldn’t introduce Edwards the way they did if they didn’t think that he was one of the biggest draws on the show. While he’s earned all this hype, NBA news was ready to crown him as the next Michael Jordan.

We don’t need to be putting those types of expectations on him yet. The NBA also wanted Ja Morant to be the next face of the league and we saw how that went. Edwards can be a truly special player but he can’t let all of this go to his head. He hasn’t won anything yet and until he does, it’s going to be difficult to truly call him the face of the NBA.
