Charlotte’s Not Going to Miss MJ
His time as the owner was a complete embarrassment and a black mark on his legacy…
In case you missed the recent NBA breaking news: Michael Jordan is out as the owner of the Charlotte Hornets. An ownership group led by Gabe Plotkin and Rick Schnall is taking over while basketball’s GOAT tries to wash his hands of the mess he created in Charlotte.
While Jordan leaves the Hornets after not winning a playoff game in nearly two decades, he was still proud to own a team in his hometown. In his statement for NBA news outlets, he made sure to let the city know that he was not leaving them behind.
“Thank You, but not goodbye, Charlotte,” Jordan wrote.
Jordan also acknowledged the fact that he couldn’t build a winner during his time overseeing the team.
“Although we were not as successful on the court as I—and many of you—would have liked, I am proud of the things that we accomplished as an organization.”

Let’s just say, the city probably isn’t too sad to see him go. His time as the owner was a complete embarrassment and a black mark on his legacy. The Hornets have the fifth-worst winning percentage in NBA history and it only got worse under Jordan. The team went 423-600 while he was an owner, which is the fourth-worst record in that time span. Nobody can dispute Jordan’s greatness on the court but the NBA rumors about him being an all-time bad executive are completely true.
This man drafted Kwame Brown over the likes of Tyson Chandler, Pau Gasol, and Joe Johnson. Just one quick look at Brown’s social media is a reminder of how poor of a draft pick that was. Honestly, his draft record is as bad as it gets. He drafted studs like Adam Morrison and D.J. Augustin over other future All-Star talents. It’s almost impossible to fathom how the Hornets have picked at the top of the draft for so many years and have come away with almost no high-end talent outside of LaMelo Ball.
Missing on draft pics and overpaying average players in the effort to underachieve every season.

Jordan should’ve been awesome as a team owner. He’s got the best brand arguably in the history of American sports. Players love and revere him. He could’ve just laid back, smoked cigars, and let somebody a lot smarter handle basketball decisions. Instead, he had to prove how much he thinks he knows ball and failed in a hilarious fashion. Oh man, it’s going to be great if LeBron James becomes an owner of an NBA team. The comparisons will never end!
All the championships we won!!! 🤣🤣🤣 🤪

Now that the Hornets can wipe their hands clean of the Jordan era, they could have a bright future. LaMelo Ball is a solid star to build around and there are high hopes for 2023 No. 2 overall pick Brandon Miller. It’s safe to say that the city of Charlotte should be in better hands now. Jordan might not be ready to say goodbye but the Hornets should be begging for him to stay as far away from the stadium as possible.
