Bronny James: Bringing the Spotlight to USC Basketball

Bronny James Commits to USC: A New Era Begins for the Trojans

For years, Bronny James has been one of the most talked about high school athletes in the country. That is in large part due to his father: NBA superstar LeBron James. However, Bronny has proven to be a dynamic athlete in his own right. Amidst the hype surrounding Bronny James, college basketball rumors and news continue to swirl, adding another layer of excitement to his basketball journey.

The 18-year-old guard has been highly sought after by many colleges throughout his high school career and he recently announced that he’ll be joining USC. The Trojans have been known as a NCAA football school for a long time while UCLA has had much more success when it comes to basketball. In fact, USC hasn’t been to the Final Four since 1954!

They will now have one of the most talked about teams in the NCAA, we can now expect to be on the lookout for college basketball news surrounding the Trojans. The fact that the Trojans just play a couple of miles up the road from the Los Angeles Lakers play may have greatly influenced Bronny’s decision.

He’ll now be able to play mere minutes away from his father… if LeBron decides against retiring. Regardless of how he came to the decision, this is going to be a big deal for USC.

Bronny is now a normal high school athlete coming to college. He boasts over seven million followers on Instagram and is a celebrity in his own right. From a basketball perspective, he’s not the same level of prospect as his father. He’s much smaller than his father at 6-foot-3 and plays basketball much differently.

247 Sports’ composite rankings has Bronny listed as the 21st-best prospect in the country. He wouldn’t be the No. 1 pick like his father was if he was in the draft this year.

That doesn’t mean he can’t play. Bronny can’t dominate around the rim due to his size but he has shown some of the basketball IQ that has made LeBron so great for so long. He’s a very strong passer and a good defender. He also could be a better shooter than his father. At the very least, he should be a very good starter for USC.

There’s also the fact that his name brings a lot of spotlight to the program. That could attract other top prospects to join the Trojans. USC may not be the best landing spot for Bronny from a basketball standpoint but it makes sense for him to stay close to home. USC is set to undergo a bit of a sports renaissance this year.

Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Caleb Williams is leading the football team and they should be one of the best in the country. Bronny could now bring legitimacy to the basketball team. It should be a fun year in Los Angeles college sports. .Stay tuned for the latest updates on both and college football news as these talented athletes aim to make their mark on the national stage.
