Brandon Jennings Calls Out Tatum for Being the ‘Softest Boston Celtics Superstar Ever’

Quiet Down 🤫

‘SoFtesT SuPeRstar in CeLtiC HiStoRy’ – Jayson Tatum

Jayson Tatum is catching strays for being “too soft.” This time, it’s Brandon Jennings (yes, the guy whose career highlight was scoring 55 points in a game over a decade ago) firing shots. Jennings hopped on the Gilbert Arenas podcast to call Tatum the “softest Boston Celtics superstar ever.” His reasoning? Tatum didn’t win the NBA Finals MVP last season.

Jennings even said, “If you’re so tough, why didn’t you get MVP last year?” Great metric.

I have questions. Mainly, what’s Brandon Jennings done lately (or ever) to be throwing around words like “soft” at a player who’s consistently in the MVP conversation? A fact: Jayson Tatum had more playoff points in his rookie season than Jennings had in his entire postseason career. That’s not shade; that’s simple math.

And let’s not pretend Jennings’ comments came from some deep basketball analysis. This was a hot take with no substance. If anything, Jennings just gave Boston fans another reason to rally behind Tatum. Because, as always, Tatum let his game do the talking.

Tatum’s Response?

Tatum didn’t exactly let Jennings’ comments slide. He took to Instagram to post a highlight reel with the caption, “‘SoFtesT SuPeRstar in CeLtiC HiStoRy’ 😅” That’s very “I’m unbothered, but also, here’s my receipts” energy. And it’s not like Tatum hasn’t backed it up. He’s already put up multiple 50-point games in NBA Playoffs and led the Celtics in points, rebounds, and assists during their Finals run. That’s not soft!

For context, even legends like Steph Curry and Kobe Bryant didn’t win Finals MVP every time they’d hoist the trophy. Jayson Tatum doesn’t need that award to prove he’s one of the best in the league right now. And don’t even get me started on Jayson Tatum’s stats—you don’t put up those numbers if you’re “soft.

Leave Tatum Alone

NBA news thrive on this kind of nonsense. Brandon Jennings going after Tatum is like me criticizing LeBron’s acting career. It’s irrelevant. Tatum’s focus is on winning NBA games, getting his money up, and proving the betting odds right by leading the Celtics back to the Finals. Meanwhile, Jennings can’t even crack the top five in “former Bucks guards who still matter.

So, let’s cut the noise and appreciate greatness when it’s right in front of us. As for Jennings? Maybe stick to making NBA picks and predictions from the sidelines.
