A Short-lived Welcome…

I’m tired of living in the f*cking past! – Chris Brown

The NBA All-Star Celebrity game went down this weekend, and there was no shortage of drama surrounding it.

On Saturday, Chris Brown, who was supposed to be playing in the game, posted an Instagram story claiming that he was initially invited but then uninvited to play in the celebrity game during the 2024 NBA All-Star Weekend.

He went on to share alleged screenshots of emails welcoming him to the event. One screenshot displayed an email with the subject line “NBA All-Star 2024 Welcome x Chris Brown,” while another showed a potential uniform design for Lil Wayne’s team featuring Brown’s name and number.

He wrote, “I was asked by the NBA to play in the all star game this year! Only for them to call later and say they couldn’t do IT because of their sponsors like RUFFLES.”

In another account, the singer disclosed that the NBA had withdrawn its offer through a phone call, which he believed was due to his past record of domestic violence. Brown noted that the NBA still extended an invitation for him to attend court-side, but he adamantly refused, exclaiming, “NO WAY!”

“I’m tired of living in the f*cking past,” Brown wrote on Instagram, likely referring to the assault charges he faced in 2009 after assaulting his then-girlfriend Rihanna.

Last year, Brown made celebrity news headlines after lashing out on social media against cancel culture by telling critics to “kiss my whole entire ass!” for bringing up the assault, describing it as a mistake he made when he was only 17.

According to Ruffles, while they were a sponsor of the NBA event, they had no say in any decisions made by players or celebrities about who would be invited. The NBA also released a statement stating that Ruffles had no influence on the rosters for the Celebrity Game.

In my opinion, Chris Brown is unhinged for this. It’s not just about his history of domestic violence perpetrated on Rihanna; it’s decades of celebrity rumors regarding his controversial behavior.

Do I think he’s a talented musician? Yes. But no brand wants to be associated with someone who doesn’t know how to act right. And as the age-old adage goes: play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

You’ll live, Chris B.
