Unexpected Trade: Chris Paul Joins the Golden State Warriors

It has been a helluva few weeks for Chris Paul. First, he thought he was getting waived by the Phoenix Suns, then he got traded to the Washington Wizards and likely thought he’d get bought out. He thought he could end up with the Los Angeles Lakers or Clippers.

Welp, none of that is happening, as Paul has now been traded to the Golden State Warriors for Jordan Poole. It was not a deal that anybody saw coming considering the Warriors already have one of the most significant point guards of all time, Stephen Curry. However, the team wanted to get off of Poole’s contract and were able to add Paul in the process.

It remains to be seen what his role will be. Will he be Curry’s backup and come off the bench, or will Curry move to shooting guard while Paul runs the offense? It will all be interesting to watch in the coming months. For his part, Paul seems excited about the move. As we’ve seen on the NBA news and rumors, he told Scott Fowler in an interview that he’s excited about the trade.

The plan is for the Warriors to hold onto Paul. They could buy him out, but that’s not likely. However, the Warriors now have some redundancies on the roster. They could still be contemplating other moves. Perhaps a Klay Thompson deal could be on the horizon.

Regardless, the Warriors are back to being one of the most interesting teams in the Western Conference. It was clear they needed to get Poole off the team as it was apparent his relationship with Draymond Green was permanently fractured after last year’s infamous punch.

It’s an interesting move for Paul, who hasn’t been able to control his fate in this situation. He’s 38 now and has had a hard time staying healthy. He now gets to go to a team where he doesn’t have to be the leader or even one of the three most important players.

Landing in Golden State could give him his best shot at winning a championship, yet at least this is what NBA rumors say about CP3’s next tournament. The Warriors still need to make a couple of moves before they can be considered real threats to the Denver Nuggets, but this was certainly an interesting step.
