“It’s not like I need an All-Star nod just to be recognized as one of the best players…” -Jamal Murray

Jamal Murray put on a cape and saved the evening for the Denver Nuggets last night. NBA news outlets witnessed how Murray hit a ridiculous fadeaway shot at the buzzer over Anthony Davis as the Nuggets beat the Lakers 101-99 in Game 2 of their 1st Round series.

With the game tied and time winding down, Murray drove at Davis before stepping back and firing one of the most iconic shots I’ve ever seen! Murray fell into the Nuggets bench as his shot went in, completing a wild comeback for the defending NBA champions. Denver trailed by as many as 20 points at one point. They now lead the series 2-0!

What happened last night is not surprising! Murray has established himself as one of the best players in the NBA, but he still hasn’t won a single individual award in the league! And he’s never been an All-Star, which to me is ridiculous!

It’s not like I need an All-Star nod just to be recognized as one of the best players out there every time I step onto the court,” Murray told FOX Sports last month. “That’s the mindset I have.

Murray’s Playoff Dominance

Murray is right to be confident! He’s been extremely dominant in the playoffs! He’s one of only seven players in NBA history to average at least 25 points, five rebounds, and five assists per game over at least 50 career playoff games. The other six players? Michael Jordan, Giannis Antetokounmpo, LeBron James, Jerry West, Stephen Curry, and his teammate Nikola Jokic. That list is unreal!

To say that Murray is underrated would be an understatement! He’s clearly the best current NBA player who’s never been an All-Star. Murray also believes he’s underrated!

From maybe media or non-basketball followers, maybe,” Murray explained. “I think I definitely have the respect of my peers. That’s all that matters. If I go on the court and I’m one of the most feared out there, regardless of what other people say, that’s all I need.

Into the History Books

After helping the Nuggets win their first NBA Championship in franchise history last year, NBA rumors suggested that he would finally be an All-Star this season. The hamstring injury he suffered in November, which forced him to miss 13 NBA games, hurt his case though.

The Jamal Murray stats in last year’s NBA Finals were phenomenal! Murray joined Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan, and LeBron James as the only players to average at least 20 points and 10 assists in an NBA Finals series. He also became the first player in NBA history with at least 10 assists in his first four Finals games.

On top of all that, Murray had a 30-point triple-double in Game 3, as well as 12 assists and zero turnovers in Game 4.

After suffering a torn ACL in April 2021 that forced him to miss the 2021 NBA Playoffs and the entire 2021-22 season, Murray thought he would never be the same dominant player again. He also wondered if the Nuggets would trade him.

Fortunately for them, they were loyal to their star point guard, who rewarded them by putting up incredible numbers last year. He also continued to develop his chemistry with Jokic and the rest of his teammates while winning the NBA Championship and potentially start building a dynasty with the Nuggets.
