Eat the Table
I’m out for straight vengeance… – Zion Williamson
It’s been nine months since Stephen A. Smith called out Zion Williamson on his show for his apparent lack of discipline and poor training and diet habits. Williamson had a reputation in New Orleans as he would “eat the table”.

Zion had a shift from that point.
“When rumors are floating around and all that, after a while, it does take its toll a little bit,”
Williamson said after the NBA in-season tournament loss to the Lakers when the “eat the table” rumor was floating around. In recent NBA news, Zion is ready to prove he is out for vengeance heading into year six.
“I’m not exaggerating, I’m quoting people. You got chefs in New Orleans who love him. They’re looking for him. Every chef there wants to meet him… The word out on Zion Williamson is that he’ll eat the table.”

Revenge Tour
His latest statement, “I’m out for straight vengeance,” makes it clear that Zion is not playing around anymore.
He’s heard the critics, and rightfully so, as he has had a somewhat underwhelming career so far in that he has not been the dominant force we expect from the former first-overall pick in the 2019 NBA draft.
“I’m out for straight vengeance.”
I spent a few days with Zion Williamson in Little Elm, Texas to talk about his offseason, a meeting with David Griffin that altered his perspective and the shift in his mentality going into Year 6.

Apparently, Zion has had his best offseason so far this summer ahead of the 2024-2025 season, and I’m ready to see Zion’s prime. The guy was one of the most electric college basketball players we have seen in recent history, and when he is playing at his best, he is nearly unstoppable.

Breakout Season
It’s weird to call for a breakout season from a player who averaged 22.9 points per game on 57% shooting, but the ceiling for him should be even higher. Zion Williamson averaged 27 points per game on 61% shooting in the 2020-2021 season, and that’s what I expect from a player with his ceiling.
Idk if anyone realized that Zion Williamson averaged 23 points and 57 percent shooting last season. But we did. 📷: @PelicansNBA pic.twitter.com/9yPMmqOndC

If Zion Williamson can have another season like that one, who knows what the Pelicans could be capable of? The Pelicans made the play-in tournament last season after going 49-33, which was good for 8th in the Western Conference.
Zion suffered a hamstring injury, however, in the play-in game against the Lakers, and the Pelicans would proceed to get swept by the Thunder in the first round of the NBA playoffs.
Playoff Aspirations
The Pelicans Playoffs odds at BetUS are currently at -170. The Pelicans made a move for guard Dejounte Murray in the offseason, which is a great addition to the perimeter for the Pelicans. If Zion can stay healthy, the sky’s the limit for a team with Zion Williamson, Dejounte Murray, Brandon Ingram and his new hairstyle, and CJ McCollum.
I am nervously excited to see what Zion we get in the 2024-2025 season. He seems to have grown up a lot in the league in his five seasons in the NBA, and his newfound focus on bettering himself this offseason is great news for Pelican’s fans.
I believe Zion will have a 30 PPG season and lead the Pelicans to the playoffs this year, as they will be sleepers in the west.
