Just Picture It: LeBron James and Steph Curry on the Same Team

Well, It Almost Happened as the Warriors Actually Made a Bid for LeBron Only to be Shut Down by the Lakers

What If…?

It’s hard to imagine a team being able to stop [Steph and LeBron].

LeBron James may be 39 years old but it seems like the entire NBA wanted him at the trade deadline. Despite his age, LeBron is playing at an elite level and is averaging 24.8 points per game with 7.2 rebounds and 7.8 assists.

One team that was interested in the future Hall of Famer was the Golden State Warriors, per NBA rumors.

“Over a clandestine 24-hour window prior to the trade deadline Thursday that included owner-to-owner conversations, the Golden State Warriors made an unsuccessful bid to convince the Los Angeles Lakers and LeBron James to consider a trade to pair him with longtime rival Stephen Curry, sources told ESPN,” ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski and Ramona Shelburne reported.

“The Warriors were eager to present a package deal to L.A., but neither the Lakers nor James were willing to explore a potential blockbuster.”

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard about a potential LeBron-Steph Curry pairing. The two have spoken fondly of each other in recent years despite being rivals for a long time. However, Lakers vs Warriors has become a serious rivalry.

The Lakers weren’t about to trade the living legend to a team they share a state with. The only way that would happen is if LeBron forced it to happen. The Lakers aren’t going to want to watch LeBron win a title for another team in the same state.

That said, it’s hard not to fantasize about the possible NBA news. The Lakers and Warriors are both having disappointing seasons. They are both play-in teams right now. Giving up LeBron would’ve effectively meant the Lakers were giving up on the season.

For the Warriors, it would’ve made a lot of sense. Their championship clock is about to hit midnight with Steph getting old, Klay Thompson washed up and Draymond Green addicted to punching players. Adding LeBron may have been enough to get the team over the hump for one more season.

But Steph would be so damn good with LeBron. The key to LeBron having success has always been to surround him with great 3-point shooting. Steph is the best ever in that regard so he’d pair really well with LeBron. If they could stay healthy, it’s hard to imagine a team being able to stop them.

It’s likely never going to happen but it could’ve been a fun ride for a bit. Who knows, maybe the two will ditch California and go play for another team considering the dictions the Warriors and Lakers are heading in.
