Just Picture It 🤩

It’s easy to see [Trae and AD] having a lot of success in a post-LeBron world…

At some point, every star NBA player gets linked to the Los Angeles Lakers. It’s just how NBA trade rumors work. However, this latest one seems to have real legs.

The Lakers struck out at the trade deadline and didn’t make any moves but that doesn’t mean they aren’t thinking about their future. LeBron James is 39 and it’s time to start planning for what’s next after he retires.

Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young has been linked to the Lakers in the past and that’s not stopping now. The Klutch Sports client doesn’t seem to have plans to be with the Hawks forever and the Lakers are a logical landing spot.

According to The Athletic’s Jovan Buha, Young is the Lakers’ No. 1 trade target this offseason.

Now, just because the Lakers want him doesn’t mean it’s going to happen. For whatever reason, it seems like teams actively avoid trying to trade stars to the Lakers. That’s just what happens when you’re the biggest brand in the sport.

It would certainly help Los Angeles if Young stated he only wanted to play there. If he becomes available, there will be a number of teams interested in him. However, the Lakers are such a good fit.

Young is an elite scorer and clutch performer. What he isn’t great at is defense. You know who helps cover up those deficiencies on defense? Anthony Davis, who might be the best defensive player in the NBA. It’s easy to see those two having a lot of success in a post-LeBron world.

Unfortunately, until the NBA news breaks that Young is going to be a Laker it’s anybody’s guess what could happen. The Hawks don’t seem to be going anywhere and it could be time for a hard reset. They are 24-31 in NBA games this season and will likely make the playoffs.

Young is their best asset to trade so the Lakers will need to make a good offer. They’ll likely be willing to give up whatever draft picks they have available so they could have a solid package for Atlanta.

There are still a lot of games to be played this season so a lot can happen and we’ll have to wait until the offseason for a Trae Young trade. I don’t know if there’s a better situation for him than the Lakers but he’s going to have to hope the Hawks are willing to work with him.
