Dunk Boy Deserves Better 😤

It’s time for [Mac] to trade in that Osceola jersey for one that has Orlando on the front…

There at the center of NBA news the ghost of the Orlando Magic’s past Shaquille O’Neal towered over what could be the future of the franchise in Mac McClung. The back-to-back dunk champ was one of the few bright spots of an otherwise dud of an NBA All Star Weekend.

Full disclosure: I grew up a Magic fan. We did not possess cable in my early days, so I found out the results of the Magic game through the newspaper on most days. You can Google both newspaper and cable to find out what those vintage items entail.

Candidly, it’s been a lot of dark years recently. But Paolo Banchero means we are so back, baby.

Or at least kind of back. This is where McClung comes into play because it’s time for him to trade in that Osceola jersey for one that has Orlando on the front.

McClung’s performance during All-Star Weekend is sure to prompt plenty of NBA rumors about his future.

Mac McClung Is Dominating the G-League

The dunker is dominating the G-League with McClung’s stats including 24.5 points, 6.8 assists, and 4.6 rebounds per game in 14 appearances for Osceola this season. The biggest stat of all is his 39.3% from behind the three-point line.

The Magic are the second-worst three-point shooting team in the NBA stats averaging a dismal 34.8% from long range. It’s time for Orlando to give McClung a chance in the big leagues.

McClung not only shined in the dunk contest but led the G-League squad to an upset win over Wemby’s team in the Rising Stars game to tip off All-Star Weekend. The guard posted 12 of the team’s 40 points in the team’s surprise win.

Even Banchero is recognizing McClung’s upside.

The Magic Need Mac’s Shooting

Now it’s time for the Magic front office to give McClung a chance. Consider the end of the Orlando bench with players like Admiral Schofield, Trevelin Queen, and Kevon Harris. We know what all those players can do and there’s a reason why they are not getting much playing time.

The Magic sit at the No. 8 seed in the Eastern Conference. It’s time for Orlando to prepare for their attempt to make the playoffs by adding some shooting. McClung already paid homage to a franchise icon by having Shaq wear his high school jersey and then dunking over the Big Fella.

“Shaq was so cool to put that high school jersey on, man, it almost made me emotional that he would do that,” McClung said, per the Associated Press. “When he put it on, he said, ‘You better not miss it.’ I said, ‘OK, I won’t miss it.’”

Now, it’s time for the Magic not to miss by giving McClung a real chance heading into the final set of NBA games.
