First Athlete Among 400 Wealthiest People

He is the first athlete to ever make the list…

Michael Jordan may be best known for what he’s done on the basketball court, but there’s no denying that he’s been an incredible businessman throughout his career. Though his ownership of the Charlotte Hornets was a disaster on the court, it made him a whole bunch of money.

After selling the team this offseason, Jordan has boosted his net worth to $3 billion, according to Forbes. He’s always been rich, so why does this matter? With Jordan getting to $3 billion, he is now part of the Forbes 400, which honors the richest Americans. He is the first athlete to ever make the list per NBA news outlets.

This is a big deal as Jordan has now cemented himself as possibly the most successful American athlete ever. He won six championships as a basketball player, is widely considered the greatest basketball player ever, and has now made more money than any American athlete ever. It’s just a very impressive career from Jordan.

While selling the Hornets helped get him over the hump, his partnership with Nike has been making him huge money for a long time with his iconic Air Jordan sneakers. Just last year, Nike’s Jordan Brand made him over $256 million. He also owns a tequila brand and is invested in NASCAR team 23XI Racing.

He’s got a lot of money in a lot of places and keeps raking in the cash. You have to respect his ability to make money since he’s retired. Nobody can ever take away the fact that Jordan is the first athlete to make the Forbes 400.

There’s no doubt that LeBron James will make the list someday and may eventually have an even bigger net worth than Jordan. However, he’ll never be the first athlete to crack $3 billion. It’s a monumental achievement for Jordan that deserves celebrating.

The LeBron James vs Michael Jordan Debate

Now, though Jordan has more money than LeBron, it shouldn’t really factor into the GOAT conversation. That should strictly involve what happens on the basketball court. If we’re talking about the most influential and successful athletes, this certainly helps Jordan’s claim in that regard. However, LeBron is still playing, so there’s a chance that he’ll be able to overtake Jordan as basketball’s GOAT.

Regardless, this is a big feat from Jordan, and there’s no denying he’s one of the greatest American success stories ever. Jordan had to work for all of his money, and now he’s one of the richest men in the entire world.
