Heat in Hot Water
Render unto Caesar what is his… – Pat Riley
The Jimmy Butler situation is getting really messy for the Miami Heat. NBA rumors about the star forward wanting a trade started to creep up over a month ago and now it seems like the relationship between the two sides is unsalvageable.
A big problem for the Heat is that team president Pat Riley is as old school as they come and he’s not about to cave into any demands without a fight. In fact, Riley believes that when players sign a contract, they have an obligation to stay on the Miami Heat roster.
“I understand this generation of players and how they want to go about living their lives. While you’re under contract with us, you do owe us something. Your collective bargaining agreement contract says that. So don’t ever take that lightly and we have a very cooperative group… pic.twitter.com/9kI45UdP2m

“There’s a difference—be who you want to be, but in one of the great biblical terms, render unto Caesar what is his,” Riley said during a recent interview.
“As players, they have to render unto the Heat really what is theirs too. While they go out there and do all these other things, you can’t shortcut it with us. I’ve explained this to the players: while you’re under contract with us, you do owe us something. Your collective bargaining agreement says that. So don’t ever take that lightly,” Riley added.
The phrase render unto Caesar comes from the Bible and effectively means that you need to give your authority what’s rightfully theirs – in this case, Butler honoring his Heat contract. It’s clear that Riley isn’t just going to fold and acquiesce to the All-Star’s request.

How Is This Going to Get Resolved?
Jimmy Butler’s next team odds point to him potentially playing NBA games for the Phoenix Suns in the near future. However, until the NBA news of his trade drops, it’s hard to know what will happen.
Butler is currently serving a seven-game suspension from the Heat and as of now, it looks like he may be forced to return to the court if a trade doesn’t happen. More contentious situations have been fixed in the past but it’s hard to see how this is peacefully resolved without him getting traded.
“I got respect for Pat Riley but this some BS Pat. Anybody who’s not telling you that is a ‘yes man’.
You’re wrong in this situation. Let that man go, he’s unhappy, obviously you’re unhappy with him too. So yall just part your ways”

The Heat aren’t a very good team without Butler on the roster. Considering his injury history and age, Miami isn’t going to get a huge return. He’s likely more valuable to the team than whatever they’d get in a trade.
