“My parents always made sure we looked the part leaving the house…” -SGA

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is a unique player who brings out the best in his teammates, helping the Thunder win NBA games while setting a standard at both ends of the court! His game is cerebral, he reminds me of Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant and nowadays he’s made the Thunder, a team supposed to be in rebuilding mode, one of the best teams in the NBA, and a serious contender in the playoffs.

A Fashion Icon is Born

NBA news outlets have witnessed that Gilgeous-Alexander has also become an attraction off the court because of his fashion style. In 2022, he was named GQ’s most stylish man of the year, and last year, he donned one of the most elegant ensembles at the Met Gala, created by Thom Browne, dedicated to late designer Karl Lagerfeld.

The two worlds [fashion and basketball] have definitely collided and I think it has a lot to do with the guys that have come before,” Gilgeous-Alexander told Dazed Magazine, nodding to legends like Allen Iverson, who “allowed us to have fun with it”.

My parents always made sure we looked the part leaving the house,” Gilgeous-Alexander explained as he recalled his earliest style memories. “They made sure we cleaned our ears, always made sure we checked our eyes, always made sure our shoelaces were tied. They always made sure that, if we had a collar shirt, it wasn’t flipped. I think that has a lot to do with it”.

SGA’s Olympic Dreams

Gilgeous-Alexander, a Hamilton, Ontario native, led Canada to its first-ever FIBA World Cup medal in September. Canada earned bronze with a 127-118 overtime win against the United States. Their performance also sealed the team’s first Olympic berth since 2000 and led to SGA being named The Canadian Press male athlete of the year.

Gilgeous-Alexander is playing like an NBA MVP this season, averaging 30.9 points, 6.4 assists, 5.6 rebounds, and 2.1 steals in 34.4 minutes over 67 games for a Thunder team that has the best record in the Western Conference at 48-20.

He will be looking to carry the momentum of his NBA play to lead Canada to the podium at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris… in style.
