It’s One Loss, But Still Stings

Unfortunately, it’s not going to be an easy season for Lakers fans…

Oof, that was brutal. Coming off a big win over the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Los Angeles Lakers had to be feeling good. It’s been an up-and-down season but the team has been playing at a high level in recent weeks.

Welp, they came crashing back down to Earth in a big way. The Lakers got torched by the Philadelphia 76ers 138-94. Considering the 76ers are one of the top title contenders, it’s a brutal loss. It’s one thing if it’s a close Lakers game or they lose by 10 points but they lost by a whopping 44 points.

LeBron James only scored 18 while Anthony Davis only scored 17 so they didn’t bring their best. However, the role players were terrible. No other Lakers scored more than 12 points. Man, this was supposed to be the year when the Lakers weren’t weird.

The last three seasons have been so frustrating. I just want one year where the Lakers don’t dominate NBA news and NBA rumors because they stink. Now, I’m not going to let one ugly loss ruin the whole season.

The Lakers are 10-8 right now and currently hold the eighth seed in the Western Conference. They are way better than they were last season and the roster isn’t poorly constructed. The team does need the role players to start playing better but they should improve as the season goes on.

Unfortunately, it’s not going to be an easy season for Lakers fans. There are too many good teams playing NBA games right now. However, I don’t think too much should be made of the loss to the 76ers. They had to travel across the country to play a very good team and were coming off a hard-fought win over the Cavaliers.

It happens. That said, the Lakers have had a number of weird blowout losses this season, which is concerning. At the end of the day, the Lakers are championship-or-bust this season so the regular season isn’t that important.

A loss to the Detroit Pistons tomorrow would be much more concerning but I’m not sweating this loss too much. It would be nice for Anthony Davis to play better when he’s up against elite big men like Joel Embiid but it is what it is.

The Lakers can’t afford many more big losses like this or it could be time to think about retooling the roster. Every role player needs to step up their game or they are at risk of getting traded.
