I’ll bring you guys out here… – Tyrese Haliburton
Playoff time can bring out the good, the bad, and the ugly from NBA fans. One Pacers fan learned this the hard way, but his fandom is getting rewarded by Indiana star Tyrese Haliburton with a trip to Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Finals between the Knicks and Pacers in Indiana.
Much Needed Context
This NBA news started days ago when a Pacers fan wasn’t content with the fact that his team was advancing. On Friday night, the Knicks clinched their spot to face Indiana in the ECF, so this fan, named Hans Perez, decided he’d wear his Haliburton #0 jersey on the streets of New York. That’s what you call poking the bear.
There was an intense playoff rivalry between the Pacers and Knicks in the 1990s in the heyday of Reggie Miller and director Spike Lee jawing at each other during the memorable NBA games those teams had.
Then last year, the Pacers eliminated the Knicks in the semifinals, so this is a highly anticipated rematch. But the New York fans were less than kind as a few threw big bags of trash at Perez, a firefighter, and chased him into the street.

It didn’t get more physical than that, but Perez’s dedication to the Pacers caught the team’s attention, including its biggest star, Haliburton. Perez appeared on Monday’s episode of The Pat McAfee Show when Haliburton promised to fly him and a plus-one to Indiana for Game 4 of the series.

Would I let people throw trash at me and go viral to face NBA rumors? I planned it all just to get a free trip to Game 4 to see my favorite team? Sure, as long as they’re hooking it up with a hotel room for the night and a little meet-and-greet with the players. That’s what it sounds like Haliburton is promising.
“I’ll bring you guys out here,” Haliburton said to Perez, “put you guys up, get you guys seats to the game. The Pacers — everybody in our organization wants to make sure you’re taken care of. The team is excited to meet you. It’s all we’ve been talking about. Everybody has seen the video.”
Perez thinks both can do something about it. Given that Tyrese Haliburton’s contract is worth $244 million, I think he can personally make sure it’s a special night for Perez.
But only if the Pacers win.
The Much-Hyped Series
With the Thunder dominating games, our best chance for another great series this postseason may be Knicks-Pacers. It should be a fun rematch from last year with higher stakes, and both teams look much healthier going into it, as there was a Tyrese Haliburton injury in March that set the team on a 3-game losing streak. But they are 19-5 in the games he’s played since.
Tyrese Haliburton’s stats this year on clutch shots to take a late lead or tie the game are absurd:
Tyrese Haliburton is 10-11 on shots to tie or take the lead in the last two minutes this year.
That clutch gene is showing up in these playoffs. He’s stolen two of the most improbable wins we’ve seen with takeover scoring late.

But Haliburton continues delivering in the clutch both on and off the court. If I were Perez, I’d wear the same jersey from last Friday night to the game and get it signed by Haliburton.
Just make sure you’ve washed it profusely, as New York trash is no joke. The rats love it.
