Battle of the Sexes ⚔️

If [Curry] loses to Ionescu in a 3-point contest, that would be major for her star power…

Now, this is the type of NBA news I can get behind. For years, the NBA has tried to get the WNBA to rise in popularity but hasn’t really succeeded. It’s looking like they finally have a creative idea to get people more invested in women’s basketball.

The NBA announced that Golden State Warriors Steph Curry is going to compete in a 3-point contest against New York Liberty star point guard Sabrina Ionescu during the NBA All-Star weekend. The 3-point Steph Curry stats are unmatched. He’s the NBA’s all-time leader in making shots from beyond the arc.

However, Ionescu ain’t no slouch. Last year, she set the WNBA record for highest score in a 3-point contest with 37 points.

It appears that this will be an even match and the only difference is that Ionescu will shoot from the WNBA 3-point line which is a little closer to the basket than the NBA 3-point line that Curry will shoot from. But, she did say she’ll shoot from the NBA line, so I guess we’ll just have to wait and see how this goes down.

This is great fodder for the NBA All-Star game. I’m sure men and women alike will be interested to see who ends up on top. Curry is the greatest shooter in NBA history and if he loses to Ionescu in a 3-point contest, that would be major for her star power.

This is actually kind of a lose-lose for Curry. If he wins, nobody will care because he’s already considered the greatest shooter ever. If he loses, that just gives ammo to the haters to make fun of him. Regardless, it’s for charity so it’s cool that Curry would risk ridicule to help charity.

There’s been talk of the two having a shootout going back to last year so it’s exciting that they’re actually going to make it happen. I’m all for the NBA trying to do new things to get fans excited. The ratings for the league have been really bad so they need to try everything they can.

I know that the 3-point contest between Curry and Ionescu is going to be talked about a lot. Here’s hoping it lives up to the hype.
