Will Opponents Go After the ROTY? 🤔
They don’t seem like they put as much work as I thought… – Victor Wembanyama
Victor Wembenyama made plenty of NBA news in his rookie season with the San Antonio Spurs. The French phenom earned Rookie of the Year honors and is a generational talent.
He’s feeling his chops and recently made comments that will definitely make him a target when NBA games get real.
It is one thing to play hard, it is another thing to make critical comments about other players’ work ethic.
Victor Wembanyama says he used to like some NBA stars until he realized they don’t put in the right work
“In a good way, some of them are really impressive and inspiring in the way they approach the game every night. But others that I used to like, now it’s like I’m just not… pic.twitter.com/9wkeqrfwBn

The Wonder of Wemby
The Spurs won the right to draft Wembenyama in the 2023 NBA draft lottery. There were NBA rumors galore about the talent level of the 7-foot-4 Victor Wembanyama’s height and skill set.
He wowed everyone in the league. Victor Wembanyama’s stats saw him average 21.4 points, 10.6 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per game as a rookie. Heady stuff for a player from France. Gregg Popovich and the Spurs had a building block the way they had years ago with other first-overall picks, David Robinson and Tim Duncan.
Sports Illustrated Scores With Hot Quote
Wembanyama agreed to do a 10-question segment with Sports Illustrated. The digital interview got all it wanted out of one quote.
“I think both in a good and bad way it’s how truly the best in the game are,” Wembanyama said. “How in a good way some of them are really impressive and inspiring in the way they approach the game every night. But others that I used to like and now I’m just like nah. I’m not sure that they deserve you know… they don’t seem like they put as much work as I thought.”
Now names weren’t named but one can be certain players across the league will take note of the quote. It’s bulletin board material for coaches who can incite players by insinuating Wembanyama was referencing them.

Those He Respects
Wembanyama did point out a couple of players he admires. One was a teammate on the French National Team that almost upended the United States in the Olympics.
“Some of the guys it was kind of, some of the guys I’ve been watching growing up, I’m not disappointed, but I’m like that’s it?” he said. “But some of them, I’m talking like KD, of course, you know I got to know Rudy Gobert more with the national team, I know their work ethic. I know how they view the game and it’s really inspiring and I want to do the same. I want to do the same.”
“He’s a unique player who is going to be a force in this league for a long time”

After Wemabanyamas interview NBA fans will keep a sharp eye on San Antonio Spurs games. Opponents are bound to rough up the 7-foot-4, 209-pounder who might want to consider muscling up and bulking up to get ready for the consequences of his eye-opening comment.
