Maturity Issues?

The team clearly thinks Doncic might have some maturity issues…

The Dallas Mavericks were able to seal a win in the NBA Finals and avoid getting swept by the Boston Celtics. However, that doesn’t take away from the fact that Luka Doncic has not been playing well. Even in the Mavericks’ Game 4 win, he went 0-8 from three.

Look, Doncic is an incredible offensive player but he hasn’t done enough to help Dallas win. His defense has been atrocious and he hasn’t been efficient. There’s nothing wrong with a 25-year-old struggling in his first NBA Finals but Dallas has to be concerned if they lose on Monday night.

There are already NBA rumors about Doncic not staying in shape. Mavs Vice President of Basketball Operations Michael Finley made NBA news when cameras caught him taking a beer out of Doncic’s hand following the team’s win in the Western Conference Finals. The team clearly thinks Doncic might have some maturity issues and those won’t go away if they lose in five and the guard doesn’t play well.

Is Luka Doncic Good Enough to Lead Mavs to Championship?

Doncic is without a doubt one of the 10 best players in the NBA. He’s usually dominant in NBA games. However, there could be real concern that he’s not good enough to lead a team to a championship.

Some of the greatest players in NBA history like Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, and LeBron James were all elite defensive players. Doncic might be better than all of them on offense but he’s not even in the same league defensively.

Now, it’s not like Stephen Curry is a great defender and he’s won multiple championships. I do believe that Doncic is good enough to lead a team to a Larry O’Brien Trophy. However, he needs to work on his conditioning and may want to consider some diet changes. He’s had a hard time staying healthy throughout the playoffs and has been banged up in this series.

Doncic has the opportunity to go down as one of the greatest players ever but he needs to work on his body and defense if he wants to crack the top-10.
