Write That Check 😎💰🏀
Hopefully it’ll help me pay for my education, which it will. – Jaren Barajas
If you watch enough NBA games, you already know how these halftime contests usually go. Some fan gets trotted out in front of 20,000 people, they’re given an impossible challenge, and then they go home with either nothing or a gift card for some pizza. But during All-Star Weekend, Jaren Barajas flipped the script.
In recent NBA news, Jaren Barajas, an 18-year-old college student, who barely plays basketball anymore, beat Damian Lillard in a logo 3-point contest and walked away with $100,000.

The Stars Literally Aligned for This Kid
Barajas wasn’t even planning on going to the NBA All-Star Game because (shocker) the tickets were way too expensive. His dad, playing the betting odds game with the resale market, finally found some seats they could afford at the last minute. They get there, and by some divine intervention, Barajas gets picked for the MrBeast $100K Logo Shot Challenge. I bet MrBeast himself picked out that name.

The setup was simple, Dame had to make three deep threes. Barajas only had to hit one.
MrBeast, doing his usual chaos, started trying to psych the kid out mid-contest, hyping up Dame like, “Oh yeah, he’s definitely making the next one.” But Dame wasn’t having it. He literally told MrBeast to chill and made him back up, because even he wanted the kid to win.
And then, in the final seconds, Barajas made it!

The Entire Arena Lost It
Shaq and Kenny practically jumped him, the crowd went nuts (myself included), and Dame (who literally does this for a living) had to just stand there while some college kid who barely touches a basketball anymore cashed out. Pretty sure he was happy for him, though.

After the win, Barajas summed it up perfectly: “This is going to mean the world to me, it’s going to help my family a lot and definitely my future. Hopefully it’ll help me pay for my education, which it will.”
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to rethink every NBA picks and predictions decision I’ve ever made.
