Why Having the Perfect March Madness Bracket Is Impossible

The Odds Are Insane and No One in March Madness History Has Ever Had the Perfect Bracket

Who Knows? May This Is Our Year!

Yeah, I don’t like those odds very much…

Who doesn’t love making a March Madness bracket? I used to fill out brackets just for fun even when I didn’t follow college basketball news. However, watching March Madness can be really frustrating for people who fill out brackets.

Why? Because it’s basically impossible to put together a bracket that’s perfect. NCAA basketball is just way too unpredictable. The fact that Kentucky got knocked out in Round 1 already screwed up countless brackets.

In the history of March Madness brackets, there’s no evidence that anybody has ever gotten 100% of the matchups correct. The closest a person has ever got was an Ohio man named Gregg Nigl, who guessed the first 49 games correctly, which is a record. However, even he couldn’t get it perfect.

While it’s not technically impossible to get a perfect bracket, it may as well be. There’s a one in 9,223,372,036,854,775,808 chance to get it correct if you just flip a coin for every matchup. If you have some knowledge of college basketball and the NCAA tournament, you have a one in 120.2 billion chance of getting it perfect.

Yeah, I don’t like those odds very much. Perhaps this is the year we finally see somebody do the impossible.

Bijan Robinson Still Has a Perfect Bracket

0.00038% of brackets are still perfect after the first round and a surprising name is among the few elite. Atlanta Falcons running back Bijan Robinson still has a perfect bracket somehow. That’s pretty insane and I’m guessing there’s a lot of luck involved here.

Full disclosure, I recently interviewed Bijan Robinson and he was awesome. I’m personally rooting for him to make history. However, I’m not confident. I understand loving your alma mater but he’s got Texas winning the National Championship.

The Longhorns have never won a National Championship in basketball and I’m just not seeing it this year. They’re a seven-seed and need to get through No. 2 seed Tennessee next. Sorry Bijan, but I don’t think this is the year that history is made.

I’m hopeful that we see a perfect bracket one day but I don’t think this is the year.
